Workshop in August - this was EFAC's sixth annual workshop. I left with an even greater appreciation for the EFAC team in Kenya. The first day of the workshop included several inspirational speakers Kenyan Minister, Joseph Tiampati, and Johnson Mwakazi, a well-known journalist and broadcaster on Citizen TV.
The second and third days were filled with more practical workshops including career options, reproductive health, peer pressure and sponsor letter writing. While the days were long, the entire EFAC secondary group stayed engaged by the interactive and often very funny presentations.

Secondary Students and Mentors at the EFAC Mentor Workshop

At the end of each day the students also had time to play tug of war, perform in a talent show and socialize with 150 other EFAC students from across Kenya. Seven recent EFAC graduates and the ANU mentors did a great job working with the students, addressing their questions and concerns and making sure they laughed a lot.
Some of My Favorite Student Quotes:
Gildah: "The Mentor Workshop is awesome. We've had so many different speakers - I loved Johnson Mwankazi from Citizen TV because he was not only inspirational but he challenged me a lot to be a better person."
Doreen: "The Mentor Workshop is so motivating. I specifically loved Eleen Montet from SPIRE because she made me realize that I am not limited by the challenges I face at the end of the day. It's what I do with my life that matters. It was amazing to me that given the circumstances she grew up in, she was able to succeed and now can motivate people by telling her story."
Wendrosa: "My favorite part of the workshop was the letter writing session because I received my first letter from my sponsors, Bryan and Susan. I loved hearing from them."
