Stay Healthy by Drinking Water I've never been a "good" water drinker. Maybe I would have two glasses a day. But upon reading an article about the consequences of dehydration, and seeing that I fall into 10 of the 12 categories,I am attempting the 8 to 10 a day. How many of the following apply to you??? 1. Bad Breath - Saliva has antibacterial properties and without water, you decrease saliva and increase bacteria. 2. You Crave Sugar - Dehydration masks itself as hunger, especially when exercising. When exercising, we use glycogen at a faster rate, diminishing the stores quickly, craving carbs. 3. Messes Up Your Workout - A 2% decrease in hydration causes a 10% decrease in athletic performance. The more dehydrated you get, the worse your performance. 4. Dries Out Your Skin - We need to hydrate our skin from the inside. And if you exercise and drink caffeine (a diuretic), you need to increase your water intake even more. 5. Affects Safe Driving - A study showed that dehydration causes driving errors, similar to drunk driving. 6. You Feel Tired - Dehydration causes blood pressure drops, increased heart rate and slower blood flow to the brain, all which make us tired. Also, a lack of water to our muscles makes our ability to do things tougher. 7. You Become Grumpy - Dehydration makes us irritable, gives us headaches and loss of focus. 8. You're Cold - When dehydrated, blood flow to the skin slows down. And, water holds heat, so being dehydrated leaves you feeling chilled. 9. Causes Muscle Cramps - Again, loss of blood circulation (dehydration slows blood flow) causes muscles to cramp. Loss of sodium and potassium from dehydration increases cramping. 10. You Get Constipated - Water helps move stool along to colon. 11. You Feel Dizzy - Loss of blood circulation to the brain will make you feel foggy and have mood changes. 12. You Get Headaches - Lack of water changes the serotonin levels, which causes headaches. Also, small blood vessels in the brain respond quickly to dehydration (and hydration) causing headaches. Certain Plastic Surgery Procedures Surge
We are seeing an increase in numbers of body lifts, tummy tucks, breast lifts and arm lifts. This seems to correspond to the national statistics that procedures associated with massive weightloss grew at their fastest rate in 4 years. Once the pounds are off, the excess skin and fat has nowhere to go, so we are seeing more of these cases. |
Potential Melanoma Treatment An international study found that a combination of two immunotherapy drugs, ipilimumab and nivolumab, stopped melanoma from advancing in over 58% of the cases. The idea of immunotherapy is that cancer is not a foreign "invader. It consists instead of the body's own cells gone rogue." These drugs get the immune system working again. The results are deemed encouraging, but patients are being told not to change the standard treatment. Surgery, chemo and radiation are still required, but it is another great potential option. Cnn.com This information comes at a time that melanomas are at an all-time high. Studies show the incidence of melanoma doubled in the last 30 years. This is especially important when the incidence of other cancers is declining.
Melanoma is responsible for over 11,000 deaths in the US each year.
Staying out of the sun and sunbeds is vital. Wearing hats, sunglasses and sunblock is also vital.
ALSO, the combination of vitamin A and antioxidants applied to the skin should absolutely be a part of skin care. Vitamin A helps to replenish that which is lost by every day sun exposure (so as not to steal from the rest of the skin cells) and antioxidants help against the free radicals that cause skin cancer (includes vitamin c, e and a). Any questions, please call!! |
Seriously? Still?
After everything we know, people still go to crazy places for injections. http://nypost.com/2015/06/02/woman-dies-after-receiving-butt-enlargement-injections/
