Champlain College is pleased to announce that Brian David Johnson will be joining us on campus April 2, 2014.
The future is Brian David Johnson's business. As the Chief Futurist at Intel Corporation, his work focuses on developing an actionable vision for computing in 2020. His work is called future casting - using field studies, technology research, trend data, and even science fiction to provide Intel with a vision of consumers and computing. Johnson "forecasts" what the 2020 consumer will be looking for in the world of technology. You may have heard about Brian in relation to the Jimmy Robot.
Brian will be participating in various activities throughout the day as part of the inauguration of Champlain's Rapid Prototype Lab, and he will be presenting a public lecture at 6:30 p.m. The opening of the lab solidifies Champlain's commitment to facilitating a synergy between the local economy and the creative imagination of Champlain's best and brightest. The hope is this lab will serve as a resource for business and industry and can be used by all.

Mother knows best - one woman's Champlain experience blazed a trail for her daughter
Maureen Golden'04 spoke with Heidi Lebrun, Communication and Stewardship Specialist shared her reasons for supporting Champlain and how the college has had an impact on her life. What Heidi discovered was a legacy that extends for beyond the traditional definition of the word. Maureen's love of Champlain is obvious to anyone who inquires, and in her case it's true the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Maureen's mother Margaret Betourney '65, was recruited by the CIA even before graduating from Champlain. She began her career working in Langley, Virginia under President Johnson's administration. Margaret sang Champlain's praises for all of Maureen's life and it is obvious that Maureen was listening. " The very first day I set foot on campus at Champlain College, I parked at the bottom of Maple Street and walked all the way up to campus. It was fall, 2001. As I was walking, I thought about how much progress I had made in my personal life and the obstacles I had overcome. I jaunted up the first set of cement stairs leading to the building of my first class, I knew my Mother had walked the same path. Knowing how successful my Mom was in both her personal and professional life, and listening to her since I was a child about the support she received from so many teachers and support staff at Champlain College, I thought to myself this is the beginning of something great, and it was".
Maureen is one of Champlain's biggest fans and never misses an opportunity to share her feelings about her beloved alma mater. Maureen welcomes opportunities to get involved. As a loyal donor to the College she has been recognized as a member of the Audeamus Society - which celebrates donors who have supported Champlain for three or more consecutive years. Supporting Champlain has always been an easy decision for Maureen. "It's easy to be involved, I love Champlain - it has never let me down."
