Road Construction Update
Weather permitting, the final staging change for this year associated with the I-96/M-231 Interchange Project in Nunica is scheduled to begin today. The transition routing westbound traffic across the median will be eliminated, with a single lane of westbound traffic continuing through the work zone. Eastbound traffic will remain relatively unaffected, although the concrete barrier wall will be removed and replaced with plastic drums.
The ongoing work for the next two weeks will include the remainder of paving in the left lane of westbound I-96, final construction and paving of the new westbound M-231 on-ramp, guardrail installation, signing, pavement markings and removal of the temporary median cross-overs. Completion is expected during the week of November 11. At that point, all lanes and ramps in both directions are scheduled to reopen.
