Fire Services Special Assessment
The Township Board is in the process of setting up a special assessment district for the entire Township to cover fire services. This will be an assessment of 1.15 mills, which is dedicated to funding the operation of our Fire Department. Because there will be dedicated funding for the fire operation, there will be a decrease in the general operating millage of the Township of 0.55 mills. The net result is an increase of 0.6 mills.
A second public hearing on the special assessment district will be held on August 12, 2013 at 7pm at Spring Lake Township Hall. This public hearing will be for purposes of considering the proposed special assessment roll. A copy of the public hearing notice will be mailed to every Spring Lake Township property tax payer.

Summer Tax Collection Change for Grand Haven Area Public Schools
For Township residents who live in the Grand Haven school district, beginning this summer, GHAPS will collect 100% of its annual school property taxes for businesses, second homes and other non-exempt property at the time of the summer tax levy. This change is due to continued school funding constraints, as well as the need to secure sufficient revenues for cash flow without the costs of borrowing these funds. The debt levy for all taxpayers will also be collected at 100% with the summer tax levy. There will be a corresponding decrease in the taxes collected for GHAPS at the time of the winter tax levy.
