Assessing Change Notices
The Assessing Department has mailed your 2013 change notice. That's the notice labeled "THIS IS NOT A TAX BILL". It is a notification of your assessed and taxable values that will be used to calculate your taxes in July and December.
The Assessing Department page on the Township website has helpful information, including "Understanding Property Taxes," written by Assessor Heather Singleton, and "Understanding Your Property Assessment and Property Taxes," written by the Ottawa County Equalization Department.
If you disagree with the assessed or taxable values on your home, the March Board of Review is where you should protest those amounts. The 2013 March Board of Review will be meeting on Monday, March 11 and Tuesday, March 12. Meetings are by appointment only. Call the Township at 616.842.1340 to schedule. The "Understanding Property Taxes" document has helpful information for preparing your challenge. If you are a snowbird, you can send a letter of protest. The letter must be received by March 12.
If you have further questions, please contact Assessing at 616.844.2108.

Snow Removal
If you have a fire hydrant in your neighborhood, please assist the Spring Lake Fire Department by keeping it clear of snow . Every minute saved in the event of a fire can be critical! Please do not plow snow from your driveway onto the bike paths or sidewalks. Also, remember to keep your sidewalk clear. Additionally, please notify your plow driver that plowing snow across or onto public rights-of-way is prohibited by state law and/or local ordinance. Any ticket that would be issued would be to the property owner in violation.
