Changes at the Spring Lake Fire Department
On February 11th the Spring Lake Township Board entered into a consulting agreement with Fire Chief Rick Nuvill. This agreement documents that Chief Nuvill is retiring and will no longer serve in the role of Fire Chief for Spring Lake Township. Further, it defines the consulting role that Rick will play in assisting with the smooth leadership transition of the Fire Department.
At the same meeting, the Township Board promoted Brian Sipe to Deputy Chief of Operations and promoted John Stalzer to Deputy Chief of Training. These two, along with Deputy Chief Jim Koster will direct the day-to-day operations of the Department.
The Spring Lake Fire Department continues to have a total of five officers and an exceptional, well-trained group of paid-on-call firefighters.
Spring Lake Township greatly appreciates the service that Rick Nuvill has given to the community during his many years of service. Additionally, we look forward to continued excellence in service by the Spring Lake Fire Department.

West Spring Lake Road Construction
Remember, the reconstruction of the bridge over Cornelius Bayou began February 11. The detour will include Hickory Street, 168th Avenue and Hemlock Drive.
During construction, the bridge deck will be removed and replaced and a separated pedestrian path will be installed. The final look will be similar to the bridge just north of the Spring Lake Country Club, which was recently completed.

M-231 Road Construction
Construction of the new M-231 bypass is continuing in 2013. Construction near the I-96 and M-104 intersection will result in lane closures on I-96 and detours from I-96 to M-104. The detour will require traffic entering and exiting from M-104 to use Maple Island Rd (Exit 10), which is similar to last year's detour. Construction is expected to be finished for the year in November.
