Being a Community Mentor

Representing our community and SCVRJP

At times you might be wondering, why so many volunteers!  Volunteers represent the community in Restorative Justice sessions, which bring victims, offenders and the community together to repair harm. Every volunteer is important.

  • Each person is an interaction that can help reintegrate people back to good standing in the community.
  • Volunteers show that the community cares.  Speakers share not only with a room full of people who have to be there but with those that want to be there.
  • Registration for a Victim Impact Panel might be done by just three or four individuals, but having more volunteers shows that the community cares about SCVRJP.
  • A "change of behavior by a change of heart", the more hearts the more change!

THANKS FOR HELPING!
Volunteer Spotlight
   Volunteer Spotlight - Josh H.
Josh Holm is completing his internship and graduating from WITC this month. He has the following to share:

"Restorative Justice is an environment that helps one change their perspective on life. It helps promote hope and inspire change. I believe that everyone can benefit in some way from the principles and philosophy of Restorative Justice. I have been volunteering since August 2012, and I can honestly say I have become a stronger, more well-rounded individual because of my experience at Restorative Justice.
"One particular experience took place in a circle I volunteered in. I was hesitant to open up because I knew some of the individuals in the circle, but I knew that the circle was about everyone and not just me, so I chose to open up and share. After doing so, those that I knew in the circle developed a greater respect for me as an individual and I was able to build a stronger relationship with them as well. This is an example of how a circle impacted me, but also how applying principles of circle in my personal life can benefit myself as well as those around me. I am truly honored to be apart of Restorative Justice and grateful to share my story!"

Thank you, Josh, for your time and dedication!
