The two-day training is an excellent way for volunteers to understand the depth of the process.  It is helpful for Restorative Justice practitioners and group process advocates.  SCVRJP has been offering Circle Training since 2006.

Training facilitated by Executive Director Kris Miner.  Kris will be traveling to Texas, Idaho and across Wisconsin this year to teach and train others on Circles.

Paths to Healing
Event for Survivors of Crime
Paths to Healing took place in Prescott, WI, on February 28th. This meeting addressed the healing paths we take after an incident or trauma.  The journey from victim-survivor and thrivor is individual.  PATHs stands for Personal Access To Healing Strategies.  Kris Miner and Kim Anez were our featured speakers for this night, and shared about their personal and professional experiences. Afterward individuals were able to connect and reflect with one another.  SCVRJP released this Press Release.
Survivor Circles

Moving Forward with Restorative Response
Our Restorative Response Survivor Circles will begin March 28th. We are now scheduling for these Circles. We ask participants to attend all 6 sessions, weekly on Thursdays from 6-8 pm.  Each person will provide listening and sharing of their story.  It can seem overwhelming at first.  However, the structure of Circle, creates a strong container of support and empathy.  Sharing your story, guidelines and tips will be provided on the first evening.  Restorative Response services offer support to survivors of sudden death, from traffic fatality, homicide, suicide.  Those that support others or community members are encouraged to participate.

Pre-registration is required, please contact Kris at scvrjp@gmail.com or call (715) 425-1100.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Liana at scvrjpevents@gmail.com.

With the start of the new year, volunteers from the Hastings Restorative Justice Council (HRJC) and SCVRJP began to participate with young women in Restorative Justice Circles. The Hastings Restorative Justice Council has been providing victim-offender conferencing services for several years, and in 2011 HRJC partnered with SCVRJP to bring additional services to the Hastings area. In 2012 Victim Impact Panels began to be offered in Hastings

Working in the Juvenile Services Center was preceded by an orientation session and a two-day training. All volunteers are Dakota County Community Corrections volunteers that have come forward to provide an opportunity to the female offenders to talk about issues that are important to them. The Circles are being held Friday afternoons every other week. The volunteers and the young women participating are building connections.

The relationship between SCVRJP and Dakota County is strong, and has helped enhance services in Hastings. If you are interested in more details regarding the Girls Circles, please contact Kris Miner or Ruth Fonstad, Dakota County's Volunteer and Intern Coordinator.

Any SCVRJP volunteers that are interested in participating will have to become Dakota County volunteers, contact Ruth Fonstad, Ruth.Fonstad@co.dakota.mn.us

Students Supporting Restorative Justice

This semester SCVRJP is working with two student groups to develop their class projects. These energetic young people are bringing great ideas to the table to help us Build a Culture of Peace and Belonging.

Brainstorming new ideas!
One group of students will focus their project on volunteering in the St. Croix Valley, while the second group will be helping us develop marketing ideas.

Thank you, students, for your interest in SCVRJP!

Kris writes about Circle Intuition in a recent blog post. Those interested in Circle Keeping or developing their Circle skill set will be interested in this piece centered on experience. "Intuition is developed when you become more natural. Intuition is the deeper inner knowing. Restorative Justice Intuition allows a Circle Keeper to move more confidently." Read more...
