National Ag Day Photo Project

Commissioner of Agriculture and Food, LuAnn Adams, is challenging all Utah farmers and ranchers to celebrate National Agriculture Day, March 18, 2015 by taking a snapshot of their farm or ranch, on that day, to document the many aspects of Utah agriculture.

This Day-In-The-Life of Utah Agriculture project is intended to record the typical activities of farm and ranch life in Utah on this special day of the year.

"This year we want to celebrate and document the hard work that our Utah family farms and ranches perform each day," said Agriculture and Food Commissioner LuAnn Adams.  "I know it is hard work growing our food.  But I hope our farmers and ranchers can take a quick timeout to capture a glimpse of what they do on this special day," Adams added.

What will be done with the photos?
The photos will be assembled in an online album to be published later in the year.  The photos will also be considered for reproduction and display in the Department's main office building in Salt Lake City.

Photos will be entered in two categories; one for cell phone cameras, and one for digital or film cameras.

Photos should be high resolution quality in JPG format.  You can take as many photos as you wish on March 18, but please send only one selection.

Where should I send my photos?
Email your photo to:agriculture@utah.gov/ If the file is too large, send via Drop Box. If you cannot email the photo, send it to us on a disk, thumb-drive, or hard copy.

The mailing address is: Utah Department of Agriculture and Food, Day in the Life, P.O. Box 146500, Salt Lake City, UT, 84114.

This is not a contest. You are already winners just being in agriculture!  Every usable photo will be included in the album.  Include a sentence or two describing the photo, who took the photo, and your farm/ranch's name.

Photos must be taken on March 18, 2015 to qualify.  Photos cannot be returned and must be submitted by March 31, 2015.  Contact Larry Lewis at larrylewis@utah.gov, or (801) 538-7104 with any questions.

Photo ideas include but are not limited to: milking cows, moving equipment, any aspect of calving or lambing, any aspect of life with livestock, mechanical repair, family members and activities on the farm, children helping out, poultry, farmlife,  production agriculture, small farm agriculture, soil preparation, planting, irrigation, roadside fruit/vegetable stands, farmers markets, and etc.

Any photo during the 24 hours of March 18 is eligible.

Utah and U.S. Drought Situation
Lack of rainfall this season is a serious concern for farmers and ranchers as many range and non-irrigated crops are suffering.
