Youth Attend National 4-H Congress
  • Eighteen Utah State University Extension 4-H youth recently attended National 4-H Congress training in Atlanta, Georgia. National Congress recognizes top 4-H youth throughout the country, and approximately 1,000 youth were in attendance this year. Utah 4-H youth received leadership training and will later become the trainers as they share their knowledge with Utah 4-H youth at teen leadership training and other events during the year. Click here to read more.

     

Invasive Insect Field Guide Now Available
  • The Invasive Insect Field Guide for Utah is now available on the Extension shopping cart and the Extension website. The guide provides information on Utah's top priority invasive insects that have been reported in Utah, and some that have been reported elsewhere in the U.S. and abroad. Included is a brief description of each invasive insect, its host(s) and current distribution, symptoms to watch for and graphs of its expected activity throughout the season.   • Larry Sagers Master Gardner Scholarship application deadline is Jan. 7. The scholarship provides a tuition waiver for the USU Master Gardener program for select individuals who demonstrate financial need and have a commitment to using their newly acquired skills to further the work of USU Extension as a volunteer in their area. Full and partial scholarships awarded. Click here for information.
  • Nominations for the 2015 E.G. Peterson Extension Award, Spirit of Extension Award and the Extension Innovator Award (new this year) must be electronically submitted to Tammy Firth by 4 p.m. on Jan. 16. Click here to see a full description of the award, submission procedures, list of past recipients and deadline information. There is a cash award for recipients, and self-nominations are acceptable.   
  • The 2015 Utah Hay and Forage Symposium is Jan. 29-30, sponsored by USU Extension and the Utah Farm Bureau. Meetings will be held at the Lexington Conference Center in St. George. There is a discount for registration received by Jan. 9. Call the Utah Farm Bureau to register at 801-233-3011.
