2015 Garden Calendar Now Available

  • The 2015 USU Gardening Calendar - A Guide to Gardening along the Wasatch Front is now available. The calendar includes 12 months of educational activities hosted by the USU Botanical Center and Ogden Botanical Gardens. Also included is information about Food $ense, Utah Pests, 4-H youth programs, suggested vegetable planting dates for the Wasatch Front and more. Cost is $5. Click here to order. 

     
Collegiate 4-H Club's "Gift of Thanksgiving" Benefits SNAC

  • Nearly 200 participants were fed at the USU Extension Collegiate 4-H Club's second annual Thanksgiving dinner for students and faculty Nov. 18 in the atrium of the Agricultural Sciences Building. The event was a benefit for the Student Nutrition Access Center (SNAC), an assistive food and nutrition program for USU students and the Cache Valley community.

     

    Those who attended were encouraged to bring at least two cans of non-perishable food items to be donated to SNAC, and approximately 450 cans were donated. Collegiate 4-H club funds were used to provide the dinner, and a local farmer donated two turkeys and a ham for the meal.

  • Hatching Science Deadline in December. If you are thinking about hatching chicks in the classroom, the Hatching Science mini grants and workshops will be repeated in 2015. The application deadline is Dec. 17. Click here for more information.
     
  • Forestry Extension Webinar - A Practical Strategy for Managing Forest Adaptation to Climate Change with a Case Study of Aspen and Spruce in Southwestern Colorado. Date: Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 12 p.m. (MT) Speaker: Jim Worrall, USFS, Colorado Forest Health Protection, Gunnison Field Office.   • Farm and Ranch Estate and Transition Planning Workshop - Dec. 5 and 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the USU Extension Washington County office in St. George.  

    The two-day workshop is intended for owners and operators of farming and ranching operations who are planning to transition their operation to successors. Click here  to register.
