Dash in the Dark: Fun Run 5k

The Utah State University Botanical Center will host its first ever Dash in the Dark 5k on Friday, October 24. The fun run will take place at the USUBC,

920 South 50 West, Kaysville.


Participants will have the opportunity to jog through the USUBC garden trails, around ponds and through the center's arboretum while being chased by infectious zombies. This event is open to all ages 12 years old or above and welcomes those of any athletic ability.
 

Tickets are on sale now for early registration at $12. Registration will be $15 starting the week of the event.

The first 50 registered runners will receive a free headlamp. 

The race will begin at 6 p.m. and an award ceremony follows. For those interested in playing zombies, please contact Jayne Mulford at [email protected].

Time for a Pumpkinpalooza
Bring your family and friends and join us for the USU Botanical Center's Pumpkinpalooza! This fun-filled evening is a family favoritefor celebrating fall and Halloween.
 
Pumpkinpalooza happens Monday, October 27 from 6-8 p.m., at the USU Botanical Center's Varga Arboretum. Parking can be found at 875 S. 50 W., Kaysville, next to the Utah House.Admission is free, as are activities unless otherwise noted.   

This "lights on", child-friendly event will feature two costume contests: for children and one for dogs. Other activities include face painting, the Grass Garden Labyrinth, a tomato throw, and a walk through Pumpkin Alley for a look at more than 90 carved and lit pumpkins.
 
Have fun at the pumpkin carving station where you can choose a pumpkin for $4, carve it and we'll take care of the mess. You can also use our trebuchet to chuck a pumpkin for just $2, or take a train ride through Pumpkin Alley.  
 
There will also be free donuts and root beer to the first 100 visitors. For more information, call 801-544-3089.
Classes & Events

Hobby Greenhouse Series

Learn how to use a hobby greenhouse to grow vegetables and flowers beyond the freeze. This four class series will discuss different structures, building materials, heating and cooling equipment, supplies, growing schedules, plants, and pest management. Our class will visit greenhouses to discuss topics learned during class.

Apple & Cheese Tasting For Garden Members

Each fall our garden members gather to enjoy the cool autumn air, good company and try different varieties of locally produced apples and cheeses. Come mingle with the garden staff and dream of the year to come! 

When: Thursday, October 9, 6-7 p.m.

Where: Ogden Botanical Gardens

Cost: Free/garden members only

 

Holiday Wreath Making

Learn techniques that you'll use for years to come to make fun wreaths for holiday decorating. You may want to go home and make them for all the people on your gift list. This two hour class will be taught by Donna Minch, USU floral design instructor.  There will be classes at both the USU Botanical Center and Thanksgiving Point.
