USU Center Receives Award of Excellence
  • Utah State University's Center for Water Efficient Landscaping (CWEL) was the recipient of an Award of Excellence from the Western Extension Directors Association at their recent meeting in Lake Tahoe, Nev. The annual award recognizes Extension outreach education programming that has achieved outstanding accomplishments, results and impacts in addressing contemporary issues. Click here to read the story.
     
Walmart Foundation Donates Thousands to EFNEP Program
  • Resources and goals of the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) in Utah have broadened following a recent $25,000 donation from the Walmart Foundation to support the program. EFNEP, a program sponsored by USU Extension, is tasked to provide free nutrition education to assist limited-resource individuals and families in acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve improved health. Extension Professor Travels to Bangladesh
  • Dale ZoBell is a firm believer that what knowledge we have we should share. He recently returned from Bangladesh as a volunteer on assignment to expand the animal science curriculum for the International University of Business, Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) in the country's capital of Dhaka.   • Horticulture Field Day - Wednesday, Aug. 13, 12:30 to 5 p.m., Utah Agricultural Experiment Station Kaysville Research Farm, east side of the USU Botanical Center, 725 E. Sego Lily Drive. View test plots and meet with researchers working on commercial fruit and vegetable production including cherries, peaches, raspberries, apples, onions, sweet corn, beans and asparagus.   • Quinoa Production Field Day - Thursday, Aug. 14, 9 to 11 a.m., Utah Agricultural Experiment Station Greenville Research Farm, 1857 N. 800 E., North Logan. See research plots of different varieties of quinoa and meet with scientists from Utah State, Washington State and Brigham Young universities who are doing conventional and organic quinoa production research. Contact Earl Creech or Jennifer Reeve for information.
  • Salt Lake County Hands-on Irrigation Workshop - Saturday, Aug. 16, 9 a.m. to noon, Wheeler Historic Farm. USU Extension irrigation specialist Niel Allen will present on irrigation design and installation.The event is free but registration is required. Click here to register. 
  • Sustainable You! Summer Camp - Aug. 12-15, in Moab. For students entering grades 5-8. Kids will learn about their backyard environment by investigating local waterways, the ways people travel and dealing with recycling and garbage. Click here for registration information.
