New Vice President for Extension Named
 
After a nationwide search, it was announced last week that professor and department head Kenneth L. White will become dean of the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, vice president of Extension and director of the Agricultural Experiment Station. White is currently department head of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences and associate dean of USU's new School of Veterinary Medicine. His appointment begins July 1. Click here to read more.

 

Extension Employees Win National Award
 
Four USU Extension employees were named winners in the National Association of County Agricultural Agents Communications Awards Program.
 
Beth Burritt, area rangeland Extension agent, was named national winner in the website/online content category for her website http://extension.usu.edu/behave/.
 
Richard Anderson, curator of plant development for the USU Botanical Center, Jerry Goodspeed, Weber County horticulture agent and county director and JayDee Gunnell, Salt Lake County horticulture agent and county director, were named national winners in the bound book category for their book, "Wildflowers of the Mountain West." The field guide describes 130 common species found throughout the Mountain West. Click here for ordering information.
 
The winners will receive a plaque and a cash award and are invited to attend the Communications Awards Luncheon in Pittsburgh in September.
 
Welcome New Employee
 
Lori Spears is the new Cooperative Agricultural Pest Survey (CAPS) coordinator for USU. She grew up in Ogden and completed her B.S. in anthropology at Weber State University. She received her Ph.D. in ecology at USU, where she examined how sagebrush architecture affected spider communities and insect prey abundance. In her spare time, Lori enjoys hanging out with friends and family and spending time with her dogs. She looks forward to working with growers and county Extension agents.
