 Best Practice Submission Reminder 
  • Best Practice abstracts can be submitted through January 15 by clicking here. Best Practice sessions will be held at Extension Annual Conference on March 7 from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. Review and acceptance of the abstracts will occur by the various review groups. Each review group will accept up to eight abstracts for presentation in the corresponding venue. Additional submissions deemed acceptable for presentation by a review group will be scheduled into open slots available among all venues. New Extension Employee

Welcome to Dr. L. Niel Allen, Extension irrigation specialist. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from USU in agriculture and irrigation engineering and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Idaho. He worked in the irrigation business designing and installing agriculture irrigation systems in Utah and Idaho, then worked at USU from 1985 to 1992 with Dr. Robert Hill in irrigation research and Extension work. After one year with the University of Nevada, Reno, as the Extension water resource specialist, he spent 19 years as a senior engineer with consulting engineering firms. His experience includes agriculture and urban irrigation water management and conservation.

 

Allen and his wife Janette are happy to be back in Cache Valley. They both enjoy landscaping and gardening and have four children and seven grandchildren who are scattered in North Carolina, Texas, Colorado and Utah.

UEAFCS and NEAFCS Award Packets Due
  • UEAFCS and NEAFCS Award Packets are due to Ellen Serfustini by January 21. Click here for the state UEAFCS awards application. Visit www.neafcs.org for NEAFCS awards application information. The state awards committee will judge the materials and send the winners on to nationals. Take time to submit something this year that reflects your efforts. Contact Ellen Serfustini with questions at ellen.serfustini@usu.edu.
  4-H Leadermete Early Bird Registration
  • Early bird registration for the 4-H Leadermete is Dec. 1 - Jan. 11. The Leadermete is Feb. 28 - March 2, 2013, at 100 E. Center in Provo. There are 134 workshops to choose from and keynote speaker/entertainer for the awards banquet is Jason Hewlett. Participants will not be able to pay online this year but can pay their county office and do a transfer of funds later, or they can call the Utah County 4-H office and pay with a credit card or mail a check. Click here for registration packet.
