USATF Georgia News & Notes - 7/25/15

USATF Region IV JO Championships
July 9 - 12, 2015
Mill Creek High School, Hoschton, GA

USATF Georgia would like to thank all of the youth athletes that competed from both the South Carolina and Georgia Associations at the Region IV JO Championships at Mill Creek High School. We also wish to congratulate those that advanced to the National Championships in Jacksonville, FL on July 28 - August 2, 2015. Have a safe trip and good luck!

Youth Chair Jacqui Collins received this note from Bill Truman, Florence Track Club, Florence, South Carolina:

"Thank you for all your hard work and effort this past weekend.  It was one of the finest meets that I have been involved in.  Your officials and volunteers were outstanding and they did the one thing that I always think is the key to these events - they put the children first!!  In addition the young lady who you had at the clerking tent (Crystal) did an outstanding job, stayed positive the whole time, and worked with us coaches (which I'm sure is not always easy to do).  Also, your javelin crew was so easy to work with and was by far the best that I have seen!!  Thanks again for your leadership in putting this together and having the personnel in place that really did care about the kids."

The USATF National JO Championships will be held at the University of Florida in Jacksonville, FL from July 28 - August 2, 2015.  Meet Information

Team USA's roster of 49 athletes traveled to the 9th IAAF World Youth Championships in    South America on July 15th to compete with more than 1,200 competitors from more than 130 nations.

Congratulations to Candace Hill, Dynamic Speed Track Club, Conyers, GA.  Hill won the 200 meters in a World Youth record of 22.43 seconds at the IAAF World Youth Championships for 16 and 17 year-olds. It was the second fastest time ever by a high school athlete - behind the record 22.11 set by Allyson Felix in 2003. Hill also won the World Youth 100 meter title in 11.08, the second fastest high school performance ever behind the high school (and World Youth) record 10.98 she had set in June. The record performance had propelled her to be recognized as American Family Insurance ALL-USA Girls Track Athlete of the Year and the Gatorade Female Athlete of the Year.

Congratulations to Georgia's shot put standout Isaiah Rogers (Throw 1 Deep), Smyrna, GA for his achievements in the shot put competition.  Rogers was second in the U.S. trials in Lisle, Illinois with a 66-4 1/4.  At the Worlds in Cali, he advanced to the final with his third-round throw of 19.20m/63-0.
