"Renaissance Period of the African American in Sports."Morehouse College/Bank of America Auditorium - April 29, 2015 EVP Ian Dube shared that he attended the premiere screening of a documentary called  "Renaissance Period of the African American in Sports" at Morehouse College on April 29, 2015. The documentary featured Edwin Moses '78, Morehouse's most distinguished athlete and a two-time gold medal winner in the 400-meter hurdles, and gold medal winning gymnast Gabby Douglas from the 2012 Olympics as two of the movie's narrators. Track and field star Jesse Owens was so dominant as he won four gold medals in the 1936 Berlin Olympics that it has largely been forgotten that eight other black athletes won medals in track and field during the same Olympic games. Herb Douglas, who was a child at the time, was inspired by those athletes and medaled in the 1948 Olympics. Now 93 and the oldest living black Olympian medalist, Douglas and producer Robert Lott decided to create this film that honors those men and their achievements on and off the playing field. Full Story New Award Winning Documentary Features Tarahumara RunnersOn April 4, Dana & Sarah Films premiered their award winning documentary GOSHEN: Places of Refuge for the Running People. The powerful film is an entertaining and educational account of the plant-based diet and athletic endurance of the Tarahumara running tribe. The Tarahumara, a light-footed indigenous people who live in the remote depths of Mexico's Copper Canyons, are renowned globally for their ability to run long distances. They are also know for their low risk of the top killers in modernized society - type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer - which is credited primarily to their plant based diet and active lifestyle. The filmmakers share an eye opening investigation of the Tarahumara people's diet, ultra-running endurance, and minimal footwear. Read More
