The USATF Georgia Track & Field Committee is pleased to present an upcoming "Lunch & Learn" event featuring Olympian Dwight Phillips.

Phillips will discuss the many transitions that athletes face as they move through their athletic careers, from transitioning to a collegiate environment, to facing the setbacks associated with injury, to finally retiring from the sport, and how important it is to build support systems along the way.

A native of Tucker, GA, Phillips started out as a triple jumper at the University of Kentucky, but after transferring to Arizona State in 2000, he has specialized more in the long jump.  As a high school athlete in Tucker, Phillips was a 1996 All-American and set school records in the triple jump, 200m and 400m. At age 14 both his legs were broken in a motorcycle accident and it took two years for him to recover well enough to walk properly.

Phillips has since achieved much success in his athletic career.  He is a five-time USA Outdoor Champion, a four-time World Outdoor Championships Gold Medalist and a Gold Medalist at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

A car accident just before the start of the 2012 outdoor season left him with back and neck injuries.  In addition, an Achilles tendon injury recurred and instead of preparing for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Phillips opted to undergo surgery to prolong his career.

Dwight Phillips has learned to transition throughout his career. Please join us as we learn how he managed his transitions. It will be a very informative discussion.
