USATF Georgia News & Notes - 3/14/14

Dear Georgia Members,

March has indeed come in like a lion and we can only attribute it to "March Madness".

We have lots of updates for you:

Volunteers Still Needed - Publix Georgia Marathon
Tomorrow at noon is the cut-off for volunteering to be on the USATF Georgia Team that will man a water station at Mile 7 of the Publix Georgia Marathon on March 23, 2014.  We still NEED 15 volunteers.  Please step forward and volunteer a few hours on a Sunday morning.  Please contact marleneatwood@usatfga.org for all information. Volunteers are also needed for Georgia Publix Marathon Expo on Friday and Saturday afternoons, March 21 and 22.  If you are interested in being at our Expo booth and representing USATF Georgia, please contact marleneatwood@usatfga.org.  We will be featuring some wonderful guest speakers at our booth - Janet Hamilton, registered clinical exercise physiologist, Joe Fejes - USATF's own ultra runner super star, Al Claiborne - fitness gourmet and personal trainer, and many other surprises.  We are at Booth 110 - World Congress Center - come and help, come and say hello!

USATFGA Track & Field Lunch & Learn CANCELLEDGwen Loud-Johnson
T&F Chair Gwen Loud-Johnson advises that this event is being cancelled due to some unforeseen circumstances.  Gwen advises -  "We know that our participants are heavily committed to parts of the sport we all know and love (track & field). I look forward to developing exciting new topics for us to Lunch n Learn too!"  Thanks Gwen - we look forward to hearing what you have planned for us.

Don't Forget Deadlines for Peachtree Road Race Registration
Tomorrow is the last day for ATC members to register for the "Peachtree". After 3/14/14 - registration for the lottery is opened to the general public from March 15 - 22, 2014. http://www.peachtreeroadrace.org/

On another note, USATF Georgia congratulates Olympian and two-time World championship bronze medalist Rich Kenah for his recent appointment as new ATC Executive Director!  We look forward to working with Rich and the ATC Staff.

New USATF GA Officials Clinic Added - Officials Certification
The USATF Georgia Association Officials Committee will be holding its final Officials Certification Clinic of the Spring on the afternoon of Sunday, April 6th at Emory University from 1:00 to 5:00PM.  We'll meet in room #306 on the second floor of the Woodruff Physical Education Center located at 26 Eagle Row, Atlanta GA 30322.  Complete details at Officials Clinic Info.



USATFGA Participates in Lt. Governor's Healthy Kids Event - March 8th

USATFGA was among several organization and vendors that turned out to support the event and the hundreds of children that turned out Saturday morning in front of the Golden dome.   Representing the association were: Jim Norvill, Ian Dube, Amanda One dragon,  Elizabeth Michalak.

Lt. Governor's "Healthy Kids Georgia" program is a collaboration of the Office of Lieutenant Governor, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation's Healthy Schools Program, and other corporate and community partners.  Formed in 2010 to address the epidemic levels of childhood obesity in Georgia and the serious physical and emotional consequences of the problem, the program encourages schools to partner with their local communities and the Healthy Schools program to confront the childhood obesity crisis by implementing health and wellness programs in Georgia's schools.
