News & Notes:
USATF Accreditation Standards AnnouncedUSATF Georgia is one of 57 associations across the country that represent our national governing body. As a member organization, we are required to maintain certain standards in order to maintain our good standing in the organization. Here is a summary of how USATF Georgia performed in 2012. Much of this criteria is based on our population base.
- Individual memberships: Minimum - 400, USATF GA - 4100
- Organizational members: Minimum - 12, USATF GA - 129
- 50% of Club Members: Minimum - 2050, USATF GA - 3186
- Sanctions per 100M: Minimum - 1, USATF GA - 1.3
- Sports Championships: Minimum - 21, USATF GA - 10
- Certified Officials: Minimum - 50, USATF GA - 217
- Coaches Ed Classes: Minimum 1 per Olympiad, USATF GA - annual schools
- USATF GA also met standards in financials, website/newsletters, association documents, representation at the association workshop and annual meeting.
Here is how we ranked among the 57 associations:
- Individual members - 6th
- Individual members per 100,000 - 24th
- Organizational members - 4th
- 50% of club members - 9th
- Sanctions - 21st
- Sports championships - 47th
- Certified Officials - 4th
As you can see, there are some areas that we need to improve on. Every year, the national office awards the top 3 associations a gold, silver or bronze award for meeting/exceeding accreditation levels. This year, we missed getting a bronze for the first time ever by one category - Sports championships. As you will see, we are making strides in this area by offering an LDR/Masters distance grand prix this fall. (Please see information contained in this communication.) USATF Association Workshop - Indianapolis (August 24 - 25, 2013)USATF Georgia sent a small group of delegates to the Association Workshop in Indianapolis - August 23 - 25, 2013. The workshop is designed for association administrators (presidents, secretaries, treasurers, membership and sanction chairs) that handle the business of the association on a daily basis. The Georgia delegates included President Ian Dube, President Elect and Club Membership Chair Inez Finch, Treasurer Tricia Jenkins, Membership Chair Linda Bommicino, Webmaster Jim Norvill, and Secretary Marlene Atwood. Within this group, we also have individuals who hold positions on national committees. Linda Bommicino is Secretary of the Associations Executive Committee, Inez Finch is the Youth Zonal Rep and sits on the Youth Executive Committee, and Marlene Atwood is the Vice Chair/Regions for the Associations Executive Committee. This year featured working sessions on revising your bylaws, event sanctioning, marketing, grant writing, and securing volunteers. There were also position specific breakout sessions for presidents, secretaries, membership/club chairs, treasurers and communication chairs. From the Georgia Association, Linda Bommicino chaired the membership breakout session and Marlene Atwood chaired the secretaries breakout session.
