Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Names
Two Georgia Cities as "Runner Friendly Communities"
Every year the RRCA selects deserving communities as "runner friendly" communities.  These communities have shown that they meet the program's criteria, which includes community infrastructure, community support, and local government support for running.  Each community has an infrastructure that can foster physical activity in a safe environment; a proven track record that organizations and business work together to promote running as a health exercise and sport; and positive relationships between the running community and local government.

Peachtree City, GA - was named for its 90-mile network of multiuse paths for pedestrians, cyclists, and golf carts.  Peachtree City Running Club, the second largest running club in Metro Atlanta hosts several quality races during the year.  The Peachtree City 15K has served as a USATF Georgia Association Championship in the past. Through these events, PTCRC has done much to benefit the community providing grants and scholarships to worthy young athletes.  They also organize the largest elementary school 5K grand prix series.

Columbus, GA - is the third largest city in Georgia and was ranked #4 on the "100 Best U.S. Cities to Live In".  The Mayor's Office has declared Columbus a "Live Healthy City".  Their Rails to Trails project is 10.5 miles long.  Its many parks are runner friendly with water fountains, bathrooms, safe street crossings and light poles every 30 yards for night running to get out of the summer heat.  The Columbus Road Runners are very visible with their "Kids Run Columbus" program, "Couch to 5K" Running programs, and the popular Soldier's Marathon and Half Marathon.  Fort Benning, the largest U.S. Army Base in the U.S., hosts numerous events that are open to the public.
