National Signing Day - Track & Field

Wednesday, February 2, 2013 was National Signing Day for several sports including Track & Field. This is not the first year that track & field has shared this signing day with other sports.

During Signing Day, sprinters, hurdlers, distance runners, jumpers and throwers, state champions, record holders and athletes who have already excelled on the international stage, will sign a letter of intent to become a member of a track & field team in a particular event(s).

We ask all Georgia Athletes, Coaches, family and friends to submit the names of any athletes that signed, along with a short bio and a picture.   We would love to feature these athletes in future communications!

Celebrating Black History Month
Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.

Someone You Should Know.....

Jean Williams and KJ Jackson

K.J. Jackson, an E-1 Track Club athlete and a fifth grader at Douglas County's South Douglas Elementary School, has had a great inaugural year of track and field. The E-1 Bantam athlete, in his first season not only won multiple local, district, and regional awards but went on to win the 2012 USATF Junior Olympic Bantam Boy 1500m Race Walk Championship, earning him the title of 2012 USATF All-American. Recently, he was recognized with a plaque by USATF-Georgia for that esteemed accomplishment. On January 2, 2013 he was selected as a member of the National Youth Race Walk Honor Roll. In addition to the race walk, KJ also successfully contests the 800m, 1500m, 1600m, 3000 and 5K events, as well as the triathlon, having been recognized in each event during his first year.
