USATF Georgia Masters Cross Country Meet - 11/10/12
The USATF Georgia Association Masters Committee held its cross country championship in conjunction with the USATF Association Youth Cross Country Meet on November 10, 2012. The meet was held at Heritage Church in  Fayetteville, GA.
Pictured here from left is Jim Bitsko, USATF Georgia Masters Chair, Kevin Young - Gold Medalist and Association AAC Chair, and overall Masters cross country winner Valentin Alvarez, who won the distance in a time of 16:03:11. Winning master female was Ena Weinstein in a time of 21:08:33.
USATF Georgia Youth JO XC Regional Meet - 11/17/10
Over 900 athletes from Georgia, Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina, participated in the Region 3 Cross Country Meet. Participants enjoyed a breathtakng setting at Heritage Church in Fayetteville, GA. The course was well marked and followed a grass and gravel path around Brown Lake. Of interest:
 At 6-years old, Heidi Heppner is the youngest member of Alpha Crush Running Club. On November 17th, Heidi finished 19th (9:24) at the USATF Region 3 Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships and was the youngest athlete in the entire Region 3 to finish in the top 20 at that event.
While Heidi is ineligible to compete in the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships per USATF Rule 300.1 (c) where "athletes must be at least seven (7) years of age on December 31 of the current year to compete at the Junior Olympic National Championships", older sister Clara Heppner (8-years old) finished 7th (8:54) in the same sub-bantam race so Heidi, along with parents Bradley and Amy Heppner of Atlanta, will be traveling to Albuquerque, NM, December 8 to watch Clara compete.

INDIANAPOLIS - After establishing a total of five age-group world records in 2012, Jeanne Daprano (W75) has been named the Masters Track & Field Athlete of the Year by the USA Track & Field Masters Committee. Daprano (Fayetteville, GA) will be honored at the Jesse Owens Hall of Fame Banquet on Saturday, December 1, which is held in conjunction with the USATF Annual Meeting in Daytona Beach, FL. Next Coaches Roundtable Session Monday, December 3, 2012  Tyler Peacock spent the last 8 years as a Strength & Speed Coach at Florida State University.During his time at FSU he worked primarily with the Track & Field team, which included the '06, '07, & '08 Men's Outdoor National Championship teams. Over the past 8 years Tyler has been involved in the training of 147 All-Americans, 32 individual National Champions, and 14 Olympians.Tyler also trained 2x collegiate national weightlifting champion and then record holder Kyle King.

USATF Mourns the loss of Milt "Gray" Campbell A rising high school senior when he won the silver medal in the decathlon at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, Milt Campbell finished second to Bob Mathias. The Americans swept the decathlon that year. Four years later, Milt became the first African-American to win the gold medal in the decathlon at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia. He went on to play professional football for the Cleveland Browns, the Canadian Football League and was also a successful motivational speaker. Milt was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1999. The Association sends it condolences the the Campbell family.
