Governors Mansion Hosts Olympians
October 22, 2012
Governor Nathan Deal recognized the outstanding performances and achievements of our 2012 London Olympians and Paralympians at a recognition reception at the Governors Mansion on October 22, 2012. Over 100 people attended the event. Assisting the Governor was Lieutenant Casey Cagel
In attendance from the Georgia Association were Jim Norvill, Racewalk Chair and Ian Dube, USATF Georgia President. Olympians and Paralymipians in attendance included: Bob Pickens - Olympian Greco Roman Wrestler; Toya Hubbard, Aries Merritt - Olympian and World Record Holder 110m Hurdles;
George Kitchens - Olympian; Curtis Lovejoy - Paralympian and 10 time record Holder; Angelo Taylor - Olympian; Hazel Clarke-Riley - Olympian; and David Prince, T&F Paralympian.

Coaches Roundtable Session Reminder - 11/5/12
The Coaches Advisory Committee is again pleased to present a series of coaches roundtable discussions, available via teleconference as a service to our members. Anyone can dial in and join the discussion. First is the series:
Dr. R. Amadeus Mason is an assistant professor in the Orthopaedics and Family Medicine departments at Emory University. He is board certified in Sports Medicine with a special interest in track and field, running injuries and exercise testing. He has been trained in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injection.
Dr. Mason is Team Physician for USA Track and Field and the Nike/National Scholastic Sports Foundation Track and Field and Cross Country meets, Georgia Tech Track and Field and Tucker High School. For a complete bio, please visit our USATF Georgia website - BIO.

USATF Annual Meeting - Daytona Beach FL
11/29/12 - 12/2/12
The USATF Georgia Association will be traveling with its delegation to the USATF Annual Meeting in Daytona Beach, FL. The annual meeting is scheduled for November 29 through December 2, 2012.
Highlights from the meeting include:
- Election of USATF President and USATF Long Distance Running Chair
- 2012 USATF National Podium Education Project on November 28, 2012, bringing elite coaches and sport scientists together to review and present the most cutting edge methodology and coaching practices in the world.. Additional information LINK.
- Jesse Owens Banquet - This year's hall of fame class will be inducted, and other major awards such as the Jesse Owens Athletes of the Year, the Nike Coach of the Year, and the Visa Humanitarian of the Year will also be given.
- Officials Hall of Fame Banquet
- Youth Workshop - November 28 - 29, 2012. LINK

- Dexter McCloud, USATF Georgia Track & Field Chair and incumbent USATF National Athletes Advisory Secretary is again running for this office.
- Inez Finch, USATF Georgia Club Registration Chair, is running for USATF National Youth Division Executive Vice Chair
- Marlene Atwood, USATF Georgia Association Secretary, is running for USATF National Associations Executive Committee Vice Chair.
- Dick Moss, Georgia Association Master Official and ITO, is in consideration for the national Andy Bakjian Award, given annually to an official that has given outstanding service to the USATF national organization and the national officials committee.
Athens Half Marathon - October 21, 2012
The Athens Half Marathon (Athens, GA), a USATF Georgia sanctioned event, was contested on Sunday, October 21, 2012 in Athens, Georgia. Highlights from the event included:
- Over 2500 Athletes lined up on race day. The course featured
musical entertainment along the race route and an exhilarating finish around the hedges in Sanford Stadium, providing runners with a Jumbotron view as they entered and exited the stadium. -
All proceeds from AthHalf benefit AthFest Educates!, a year-round effort to share Athens rich musical heritage with local
students. -
Olympian Reese Hoffa wowed the crowd by presenting awards. Hoffa, pictured below, presented Georgia Association Secretary Marlene Atwood with a first place age group award on race day.
