Clinics for Officials Recertification for the New Olympiad and New Officials Certification Scheduled
Sunday, October 21, 2012 - 1:30 pm - 4:30pm (Tentative @ Emory University) Sunday, October 28, 2012 - 1:30pm - 4:30pm @ Kennesaw State University You must be a member of USATF to hold an Officials Certification. You must be 18 years of age and completed high school education.
Those officials who were first certified in 2012 are not required to recertify. You will be "grandfathered" into the new Olympiad, however you will be required to purchase a 2013 USATF membership on or after November 1, 2012.
Certification Fees: Recertification - $15.00, New Certification - $30.00 Adult membership cost is $30.00 online at www.usatfga.org. 2013 USATF Memberships go on sale November 1, 2013

Introducing Two New USATF GA Board Members
Jim Bitsko - USATF Georgia Association Masters Chair (Masters LDR/Masters Track & Field)
Jim is a runner and a coach, and now looks forward to being the Master's Chair for USATF Georgia. He is a life long runner and track and field fan. He currently competes nationally on the Atlanta Track Club competitive team on the roads, track and cross country. He is a USATF certified coach. He looks forward to having the opportunity to help others improve their running and experience the sport he loves.
Tricia Jenkins, USATF Georgia Association Treasurer
Tricia earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and is currently pursuing a Master of Accountancy degree from University of Phoenix. She has over eight years of experience in public accounting and another 6 years in the private industry. Her professional experience includes nonprofit organizations, small business, governmental, and real estate accounting. She has been active in the track and field community for over seven years. Tricia has served as President of Gazelle Track Club for four years. Her goal as USATF Georgia Association Treasurer is maintain strong and sound financial records.
USATFGA Bylaw Review Committee Seeks Secretary
The USATFGA Bylaw Review Committee is looking for a committee secretary and member. This committee is responsible for reviewing, interpreting and amending the Association's bylaws and operating procedures.
The position of secretary is an unpaid volunteer position and involves the following: informing the appropriate people about the outcome of committee meetings; recording action points and following said points to ensure that action is taken; ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of documents for meetings; and, timely and accurate production of meeting minutes.
Plus, you get to work with really cool people: Ken Dennard, Head Coach, Runnin' Mustangs Track Club; Ron Williams, Chair, USATFGA Coaches Advisory Committee and Head Coach, DC Express Track Club; Tony Dunning, Vice President, USATFGA Youth Committee and Head Coach, First Light Track Club; Dexter McCloud, Masters World Champion, 60M High Hurdles, Chair, USATFGA Track & Field Committee and Vice-Chair, USATFGA Bylaw Review Committee; and, Pamela Hudson, Chair, USATFGA Bylaw Review Committee.

Olympic Gold Medalist Aries Merritt Class of 2003 Visits Wheeler High School
Aries Merritt, Olympic gold medal winner and 110-meter hurdles world record holder, returned to Wheeler High School on October 5, 2012 to inspire students to focus on their studies and set high goals for themselves. Graduate of the class of 2003, Merritt's hurdling career started at Wheeler when he jumped over a fence by the track. Merritt's visit was a great honor for Wheeler students who greeted him enthusiastically with Wildcat pride.
Students also heard from Kevin Young, Olympic gold medalist and world record holder of the 400 m hurdles. Young competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics and broke the world record in 1993. (Kevin is USATFGA AAC Chair and sits on the USATFGA Board of Directors.)
For the very first time, two of the World's fastest hurdlers came together to inspire teens to follow their dreams!
Georgia Athlete Natasha Hastings Addresses OCR 2012 Title IX Conference in Atlanta
Natasha Hastings was a featured guest speaker at the OCR 2012 Title IX Conference in Atlanta on October 5, 2012. The conference celebrated the 40th anniversary of Title IX in Women's Sports.
Hastings, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, is an 11 time All America, and an Olympic Gold Medalist from Dagu. In 2008 at the age of 22, Hastings made the USA Olympic Track and Field Team. She won an Olympic Gold Medal in the Women's 4×400 m relay team by running a 49.87 split at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Hastings' presentation focused on what Title IX meant to her as an athlete. She spoke about how girls 40 years ago did not have the same opportunity she had to develop her talent. Also in attendance were long time Georgia member Art Manigault and Georgia Association President Ian Dube.
