BOOK FAIR NEWS

The Book Fair in the Library was a great success!  Scholastic provided a wide selection of books that appealed to students in each grade level.  The profit will be designated for the Library by the PTA.  This joint effort provides books for the Library, reading incentive materials and rewards during the year.  Thanks to the parents who assisted as cashiers and to the teachers who helped on the day of the Carnival.

Two estimating contests were part of the "Reading Oasis" Book Fair.  Students in Grades K-2 guessed the number of bones that Clifford, the Big Red Dog, sent to the Book Fair.  There were 86 bones in the jar.  First Grade student Cameron Ellis was the winner with his guess of 85 bones.  For Grades 3-5 there was a box of 429 jewels found with the Pharaoh's mummy at the oasis.  Katrina Lepka, a Fifth Grade student was the winner with her guess of 432.  Other winners were Sierra Fleming and David Smith, second place.  In both contests there was a tie for third place.  Those winners were Nate Sullivan and Michael Zewdu (K-2) and Nicholas Harrah and Annah Pugh (3-5).  The winners each chose a book from the Book Fair as their prize.  Congratulations!

All of the students enjoyed the Fair, the author video and the opportunity to choose new books to read.  The teachers appreciated all of the books which were donated to their classroom libraries.  Everyone is already looking forward to the spring Book Fair!

Nominees must be principals who:

Demonstrate leadership and exemplify commitment

Inspire their students and are advocates for their school and their faculty. Foster cooperation between the school and the community. Maintain dialogue with students, parents, faculty, and staff.

CANNED FOOD COLLECTION FOR CHRISTMAS MOTHER
The Pinchbeck Rays will be collecting canned goods for the Henrico Christmas Mother from November 18 thru November 26.  Dig deep into your pantry and send in those canned foods, all to support Henrico families during the holiday season.  Some food items that are particularly needed: peanut butter, canned meats, vegetables, fruits, and any item that does not require refrigeration.

We will also be collecting gently used books for the Henrico Christmas Mother. Last year, each family was able to receive 2 new books and 3 gently used books.  So, as you refresh your bookshelves with the new additions you purchased at the Book Fair, please send in those gently used books. These should also be placed in the boxes along with the canned goods.

Place your items in the cafeteria entrance.  Thank you for your support!
