Public baths
Neat story from the New York Times here about a time long gone. My Irish grandfather, who died when my father was a boy, shoveled coal in one of these places. Ah, the things we take for granted nowadays.

Plastic house
Erin pointed me toward this plastic house. Looks new, doesn't it? It isn't. Well it sort of isn't. Which makes me wonder where we should draw the line between old and new. The more I think about that, the more confused I become. But I do like that big panel on wheels. Thanks, Erin!

But what will the horse say?
How about this clever way to heat and cool a house? Leave it to the Japanese to come up with something unusual. That "low-odor" part makes me wonder, though. Isn't "low" a subjective thing?

Heads up!
Thanks to my friend, Ray Wohlfarth, for sharing this story about what we in New York continue to call the Freedom Tower. I followed this in the news while it was happening and smiled at the comments from the engineers about how the ice-fall would lessen less once they turned on the heat in the building. Sure makes you wonder about the R-value, doesn't it?

But on the other hand,
there's this. Use lots of insulation in your new house and then go have a tough time getting financing. Some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed.
