When I'm 64
cupcake My birthday's this week and I turn 64. If I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself. Anyway, this being the birthday that brings to mind that song, I just couldn't help myself, so here's my January column from Plumbing & Mechanical magazine. Thanks for the gift of your time.

Thermal imaging comes to iPhone
thermal imaging iphone This looks like it's going to be a great addition to any HVAC contractor's toolbox, and the price sure is right, especially when compared to other thermal-imaging technology. It's a great way to show a customer what's going on with their building and it's bound to help sales.
Good thinking
oil delivery Especially when the comment comes out of Maine, which has had its share of winter this winter. Adding insulation makes so much sense to me and I'd rather see my money go toward that before I sink it into new heating equipment. Button-up the place first and then do your heat-loss calculations for the new equipment. It just makes sense.
Call him Lucky!
collision So it's been a brutally cold winter just about everywhere, and you can imagine what it's been like on Canada's Prince Edward Island. I had to smile when I read this story about, well, Lucky, the oil-truck driver. Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.
Who cares about celebrities?
oprah When put up against believable (and, I suppose, understandable) statistics, not many folks do. At least in the U.K., that is. So here's something to keep in mind if you're thinking about getting Miley Cyrus to endorse your company.
Nothing to do with heating
bobcat building But you have to admire the chops of the guy who drove the CAT. Thanks to Moe the Plumber for sharing. My sphincter muscle will never be the same.

One of the great things about being a writer is that even when my luck turns lousy I still get to write about it and make a buck. That's the thinking behind this story, for which Supply House Times magazine paid me well. I hope you enjoy reading it more than I enjoyed experiencing it.
Hug your kids.
