What's next for Nest?
Nest Labs thermostat The world's most attention-getting thermostat (as far as the media is concerned) could get a lot more interesting in the coming months. Check out this prediction. Remember what happened when Apple opened up the iPhone for app developers? This should be lots of fun.

Aging opportunity
bathroom Something you may not have considered (I hadn't!) but we older folks are about to present new market opportunities for those who provide comfort and such. Check out this article, which came to me by way of the beautifully aging Robert O'Brien. I plan on sticking around long enough to drool on the radiators. You?

NATO goes green
NATO installs solar cells And for good reasons. In the U.S., the military has been driving much of the movement toward energy independence, and now NATO is following. Here's the story. Note how they want to get these military bases off the grid. So much to consider these days.

Don't count out coal
engineers test clean coal Not when we have universities such as Ohio State on the case. Look at what they're up to in the heartland. Between this and fracking, how soon before we're energy-independent?

2.5 billion years
china That's how many years an area of Chinese citizens are projected not to live because of China's insistence on burning coal however they choose, which is mostly the dirty way. Here's the story, which comes to us by way of MIT (I'm not worthy!). Heck of a way to control the population, eh?

Energy efficiency and the economy

john connor Here's a story from our friends in Australia, where, like New Zealand, they are not known for building energy-efficient buildings. This would be an excellent time for one of those funny Fosters beer commercials. What's Austrailian for efficiency?

Nothing to do with heating
urinal with sink But a couple of new takes on a product we guys use frequently. This one could keep you healthy while saving water, and this one could keep you out of the slammer. Thanks to Robert O'Brien, who never ceases to amaze.

To fan or not to fan
ceiling fan heat An article on the evils of ceiling fans for your amusement. These GreenBuildingAdvisor.com guys always manage to make me smile. Oh, and think. Yeah, that too!

Our energy conundrum
German heat and power facility

If this one doesn't say it all, I don't know what does.

Hug your kids.
