How's this for a close call?

church Talk about a creative way of getting an old steam boiler out of a basement. This idea could have been a real blast, eh? Whoa!

When the government stops paying,
cavity wall insulation folks in the UK stop insulating. Check out this article. Ask people to take out a loan to save energy and this is what you get. I hate to sound cynical but that drop-off is astonishing. Love to hear what you have to say about it.
Danish wind
infographic Years ago, when I first visited Denmark, I asked about the many wind turbines that stuck up out of the farmland and my host told me that farmers band together in cooperatives, put up the funds and had the turbines built. Then they raised wind like a crop. The customer was the utility. That has changed dramatically and this is what's going on now in this greenest of countries. Think it's better to keep things small?
It's about behavior
Rudin Old friend and subscriber, Andrew Rudin, wrote this terrific article and I wanted to share it with you because there is much to consider here, and much truth as well. Real efficiency begins with turning off stuff. Thanks, Andy!

Kite power
kite power Google just bought this company, and for a good reason. Check out the video within the brief article. Hey, why didn't we think of this?
Condensing considerations
My Russian friend, Dr. Igor Zhadanovsky, who has more degrees than a thermometer, wrote this article about condensing boilers and I told him that I thought it would stir the pot a bit. Welcome to the Catch 22 of hot-water systems.
The chimney
steeple Last September, subscriber, Noel Kelly, sent me this short film about the late, great Fred Dibnah. I haven't been able to get it out of my mind. This was a very special man and I hope you enjoy his story as much as I did. Thanks, Noel.
Hug your kids.
