Will LEED fade away?
LEED According to this article, it sure looks like it might if the new efficiency law goes into effect. And isn't it amazing how one law might change so much? Stay tuned.

Oh, Canada
canadian flag They continue to strive toward quality HVAC installations and they always make me smile. Here's proof. And while you're on Robert Bean's site, spend some time looking around. The man is brilliant.
Tale of two cities
NYC and Hong Kong Good article here about the similarities between New York City and Hong Kong. Real interesting statistics in there about how the greatest gains in efficiency will come from existing buildings in the coming years. Consider how many steam-heated buildings there are in NYC alone, and how much a steam-savvy person can achieve with a bit of tweaking of those grand, old systems. Gets me excited!
That delightful curmudgeon
HRV Martin Holladay continues to rock the boat, and I'm glad that he keeps doing so. The man just gets my blood pumping! How about you? In this episode, he has some blunt comments about the joys of living in a Passive House, or as they say in Germany, Passivhaus. Things may not be as happy as expected within that deep blanket of insulation. Such fun!
On being mechanically beautiful
steam-powered box factory A big hug goes out to my friend, Michael Lundquist, for sharing this video about what once was in America, and still is today as far as these folks go. You up for a field trip?

Lose the fat?
fat-burning power station No, use the fat! That's what they'll be doing in East London. Lots of power potential in fat and I'm sure glad I'm not the one cleaning all those grease traps. Thanks to subscriber, Joe Hammes, for sharing this gem with us.

fuel costs Robert O'Brien sent me this link, which I thought was very interesting. Sort of explains coal, doesn't it? Robert O'Brien continues to think better than most, for which I am endlessly grateful.
Hug your kids.
