globe How's that for thinking big? Here's my column from last month's Supply House Times magazine, which has to do what the big ISH fair in Frankfurt, Germany was all about this year. If you ever get a chance to go to this show, go!

Biofools?
biofuel

Here's a hard look at biofuels in Europe, where things are not going as promised. Thanks to subscriber, Glenn Elwell, who mentions that T&E is the European Federation for Transport and Environment. I didn't know that and figured you also might not know it. It helps put this in perspective. Glenn also writes, "Note that the  'annual support is substantially higher than the total investment in biofuel production facilities between 2004 and 2011.' I wonder where the difference went."

green carport All of that being said, we now have this delicious electricity-producing carport serving (a few of) the good people of Staten Island, NY. Little steps leading to who knows where?
Thank you, Romans!
bath abbey In conversation with a German engineer, I once mentioned that we had some very old buildings in New York City. He grumped and said, "I have underwear older than your buildings." That, I have to admit, left me a bit tongue-tied. I thought of that day when I read this story about how some Roman engineering remnants will soon be back in service within a structure that's way older than that German engineer's drawers. Well done, Brits!

energy fact book

Thanks to subscriber (and Renaissance Man), Noel Kelly, for sending this link, along with a note: "Here is all you need to know about what is happening with regards to U.S. energy production. This is fascinating stuff." To which I say, Amen! Thanks, Noel.

Something new for CO2
research team I spotted this story a few weeks back and it (once again) reminded me of how very small my brain is, and how happy I am to be on the planet with folks who can come up with stuff like this, and at a very fine time.

lily impeller Here's a fascinating article about a new type of impeller and a whole lot more. Take a few minutes to watch the video within the article and enjoy the passion of Jay Harman. As the article states, this is a fundamental rethinking of everything.
Hug your kids.
