Want to live in a tent?
If you're in the Army, you may not have a choice, but check out these new tents that the Army is testing, and for a very good reason. They help cut down on the number of convoys needed to deliver supplies to the troops. Meanwhile, look at what's going on over at the Air Force. How's that for a mixed message?

When our daughters lived home
I could have used this. Prepaying for electricity seems to make people more conscious of how much electricity they're using. I suppose that's human nature, and it reminds me of the places where you have to put a quarter in the gas meter to get hot water. Also reminds me of those new parking meters that text you when they're about to run out of money and then give you the option of refilling the meter with your smartphone. Sure beats asking the guy in the candy store for change, eh?

Bolder Boulder
That's not just the name of a famous road race; it's also the attitude the folks in charge are taking toward getting even greener up there in the foothills. Boulder, Colorado is already probably one of the greenest places on earth but they're not done. The big question is whether they're getting too far out ahead of the citizens. That's important, too, right? Here's the story; you decide.

Tough to take
Mostly because I find most radiators to be gorgeous, not ugly, as Emma Harvey sees them. Emma is into stenciling those European-style radiators to pretty them up. We in the U.S. don't see too many of those types of radiators and I'm still trying to figure out why that is. I think they're lovely. But back to Emma. I'd love to see what she'd do with one of our New York City steam-belching monsters. That would be some match. Thanks to my friend, Heidi Thorne, for sharing this one with us.

Being nice?
Another gem from Heidi. Don't you think this one could have made a great episode of Seinfeld? Ever deal with someone who is wonderfully nice, but totally incompetent? (Hey, stop looking at me!)

A moooooving story
Thanks to subscriber, Hoagi Kosterm, for sharing this story about what to do with tons and tons of manure, which proves once again that one man's ceiling is another man's floor. I wonder if we could install a system just like this in Washington, D.C. Power to the people!

Pellet stove update
John Ackerly gave me a heads-up on this story about what's been happening with pellet stoves in recent years. John sure is feeling good about wood!
