Energy Star homes and default

Energy Star logo Well, here's a great bit of economics for you. Or is it sociology? You decide. And be sure to follow the links within the article to the source material. This could have a big impact on which homes get mortgages as we pull out of this (not so) Great Recession.

A dispute with mixed results

Quincy sign Quincy, MA and Honeywell have been having a disagreement, but they're working things out. What I find most interesting are the details of this whole deal. Check out the story. What do you suppose accounts for those wacky results? Love to get your thoughts.
That's a lot of pop!
zero energy home Here's another use for those 40,000 leftover Pepsi bottles you have in your basement. My dearly departed father, who saved bent nails and dead car batteries, would have loved this story. But then, here in New York, we get a nickel for each empty bottle, so do the math on that lost money as you stare into space and contemplate the wonder of all of this. And please think nice thoughts about Neven Soric of Stangbangers fame. He found this gem and shared it with us. Thanks, Nev!
Nothing to do with heating
table But if you love beautiful mechanical things, you're going to really love this. Thanks to subscriber, Randy Gitli, for sharing. Oh, and as to the price, I suppose if you have to ask, well, you know.

A guy I've always admired
Don Arnold When I was coming up in the business, I read Don Arnold's College of Product Knowledge in Supply House Times magazine, never dreaming that I would someday also have a column in that fine magazine. Don has always had a way of cutting to the chase and making me understand the meaning of things. His new journey is no different. I think this guy is terrific.
Finally
Denis Ever wonder who invented the lowly, but oh-so-important, pressure-relief valve? Yeah, so did I. And since I have no life, I had to find out. Turns out it has a lot to do with food. Yum! I got this Plumbing & Mechanical column out of it, which I hope you enjoy.
Hug your kids.

Dan
