How to get people to use less energy
This article from Fast Company lists three ways that are working (mostly) in other parts of the world. The trick is to leave people with little choice, and then have them feel the neighbors are doing better than they are. Fine and good, but now let's see how the sequester affects all of this.

Nothing to do with heating
Unless you have a fine imagination, that is. Thanks to subscriber, Wayne Heid, for sharing this short video with us about a fascinating GE discovery. Just when you think you've seen everything.

You may never heard of torrified wood (I hadn't), but this is great news for a lot of reasons. Read all about it here. And thanks to subscriber, Ray Frechette, who not only knows a lot about saving energy in buildings, but also does this, which I think is gorgeous. Ray writes me just about each week, and always has something that makes me think.

Forward-looking Philly
I recently visited Philadelphia to do a seminar for the customers of Veolia Energy, Philly's district-heating company (and more). Let's stay tuned.

Small house, big story
Okay, so here's a solar house (the first) to go up in the UK. A couple of significant things are going on here: First, they're using hybrid panels. I saw these for the first time last year. Imagine a PV panel that also has hydronic tubes running through it. The other unique thing they're doing is storing heat in the ground under the house. This is a first for them but I've seen it happening in lots of other places. The ground makes for a great heat sink.

Warehouse safety
It has nothing to do with heating, but if you work in a warehouse it's so important that you practice forklift safety. This video from Germany comes with subtitles, but they're worth tolerating for the important lessons contained within. Now sit up straight and pay close attention to that second half.
