Here's a short article about the new New York Times building in Manhattan and how much energy it has saved since its opening in 2007. They really thought this one through, with the notable exception of this little incident. Hey, how 'bout those multi-purpose rods! (They've since removed them from the lower couple of floors, which is a very good thing.)

IKEA Just kidding, I love IKEA. We have one a few miles from our house and The Lovely Marianne and I like to wander through the place. It's one massive Scandinavian furniture maze and you get Swedish meatballs at the end. Urp! But look at what they're up in Florida these days.

Nothing to do with heating
billy joel Michael Pollack is a Long Island lad and a freshman at Vanderbilt University. Billy Joel (with whom I went to high school) was there giving a lecture and this is what happened. Stuff like this brings tears to my eyes. And as Billy says near the end of the video, "Michael, you got chops." I hope he makes it big.

burning coal in germany So, in the interest of a cleaner environment, we're moving away from coal and toward natural gas, brought to the surface of the earth courtesy of fracking. But what to do with all that good American coal? Hmm. How about if we ship it to the Germans and let them burn it instead? Here's the story.
