Are heat-recovery ventilators a waste of money?
Some musings from the ever-provocative Martin Holladay. I love the way this man writes. He has a keyboard in one hand and a straight razor in the other. Such fun! Love to hear your thoughts about this.

Living small
Ray Wohlfarth, who writes great books, sent me this video of what's possible in a tiny New York City apartment if you just think it through beforehand. I loved everything this guy did, except for the way he encased those steam radiators.

Chinese heat
Here are some statistics about the Chinese market for wall-hung, gas-fired boilers (by way of Robert O'Brien). Remarkable numbers, don't you think? And note how many of the total are domestic brands. Think we'll be seeing these in our market before long?

Here's a great question
Why don't architects and interior designers care about HVAC systems? That's the title of this delicious (and refreshing!) article, graciously shared with us by (once again!) Robert O'Brien. Thanks, Robert!

Drive-by shooting
We've discussed the business of looking at people's homes (or whole cities) with infrared cameras to check out where all that heat is going, but Erin recently sent me this article, and the pics were too great to pass up. Erin rocks!

Nothing to do with heating
Or maybe it does? Who knows when MIT is involved? And they never seem to be done, do they? This time, they've managed to come up with a new state of matter and a new type of magnetism. Yeah, I know, it's just what they do. I'm not worthy!

Meanwhile, somewhere in Russia
We have this lad who is having a laugh tossing pots of boiling water out the window when it's minus-41 degrees outside. Don't you just want to sit and drink vodka with this guy? I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
