Great news about molybdenum disulfide!
solar cell The brains at MIT (I'm not worthy!) have figured out a way to manipulate it into a solar funnel to increase the efficiency of solar panels. The story is here and you should read it yourself because my brain is just too small to try to explain any of this.

Nice story
gold dust In light of all those Let's-catch-the-cheating-contractor-on-camera stories on the news, it was great to see this story. Here's to integrity!
And a scary one
I remember when our four daughters were this age. I was amazed at the lengths they would go to hurt themselves. I think parenthood is the leading cause of old age. Check this out.

From coal to wood
Youngstown Ohio plant Thanks to subscriber, Robert O'Brien, for sharing this story about another district-steam company moving away from coal and toward wood. This one's in Ohio. Seeing a trend?

What comes around...
SUNY ESF ...goes around. Take a look at what's going on at the State University of New York's College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. They're practicing what they preach, and I'll bet the students who come out of this fine school remember what they've learned. Trend?

Wind power in one chart
wind turbines in maine It's no surprise that government subsidies have been behind the rapid growth of wind power in recent years, but that's changing now, and this article points to a viable solution to the problem of what to do next.
American Radiators
american radiators book cover Thanks to the generosity of subscriber, Robert Reape, I was able to scan this 85-page American Radiator catalog from 1937. It contains many of the cast-iron convectors that we find in older buildings, along with their ratings. The Library continues to grow, thanks to good people like Mr. Reape.

And if you were naughty this year
Maybe you got wood pellets in your stocking instead of coal. Hey, sign of the times. Happy Holidays!
Hug your kids.
