ACTION  ALERT

HELP KEEP PIPELINES OFF PRESERVED LANDS!

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will hold a public meeting on the proposed PennEast natural gas pipeline next Tuesday, January 27.

The purpose of the hearing is to gather public input  on what the agency should consider in its Environmental Impact Statement for the construction, maintenance and operation of the PennEast line.

Please attend and voice your opinion!

DATE: Tuesday January 27, 2015

TIME: 6 p.m.

LOCATION: College of New Jersey, Kendall Hall, Performance Theater

ADDRESS: 2000 Pennington Road (Route 31), Ewing, NJ, 08628

Representatives of PennEast will be present for one hour prior to the start of the hearing to answer questions about the project.

Background

New Jersey is facing an onslaught of energy infrastructure being proposed without comprehensive planning, and with the full backing of federal energy policy.

The proposed PennEast pipeline would be an entirely new "greenfields" pipeline that would cross the Delaware River and run through Hunterdon and Mercer counties. The proposed route targets preserved farms and natural areas, threatening New Jersey's natural resources and its enormous public investment in preserved lands.

Please ask FERC to:

  • Prohibit pipeline crossings of preserved land
  • Consider the impacts of the proposed pipeline on water resources in the Delaware River Basin and the Highlands
  • Consider the cumulative impacts of all of the existing, proposed and planned pipelines for New Jersey
  • Require proof of a compelling need
  • Require an alternatives analysis that includes non-pipeline alternatives

Residents are encouraged to share information and opinions on the negative impacts of the proposed pipline on natural and cultural resources. There will be a time limit of three to five minutes per speaker. Please arrive early to sign in as a speaker, and bring a written copy of your testimony.

You can also provide written comments on the Environmental Impact Statement process to FERC by February 27, 2015. Send comments to:
