Dear Members & Friends:

As we all busy ourselves with the perfect storm that is Mardi Gras/Super Bowl/Mardi Gras, I would like to wish all of our membership great sales during this three week influx of visitors and tourists.  I know that just like the City of New Orleans, we are all putting on our best face because "we got company comin'."

I would like to thank all that participated and attended our Annual Installation and Awards Dinner last month.  What a great job Annie Flettrich and our committee did, pulling off another banner event!

Moving forward in February we will begin committee meetings. I encourage all members to join a committee as our committees continue to direct the path of our organization.  Please contact Annie Flettrich for details of any committee.

Also, our first 2013 Luncheon is on February 21, 2013 at La Louisiane with a wonderful guest speaker, Mark Romig of the NOTMC.  I know we all want to hear about the great things coming this year to our city.

Happy Mardi Gras!

Jeremy DeBlieux
FQBA President, 2013

FQBA Goals for 2013

FQBA's Board is in full support of finding recurring funds for the French Quarter Management District.  The management district's make up is a viable government entity able to enhance the Quality of Life in the French Quarter.

The FQBA  board will continue to strive for improved noise levels, sanitation, lighting and graffiti.

Marketing efforts will continue to grow from the committee level, such as the "Get Away in the Vieux Carre" summer campaign and the "Shop Away in the Vieux Carre" holiday shopping promotion.

Lunch programs will continue every other month starting in February. Be on the look out for your invite to a fabulous French Quarter venue where you will hear from informative speakers on various important topics.

This year the board intends to implement a Membership Round Table breakfast at the end of the year. Where the board will ask for membership's input on the year and the future of the association.

The graffiti committee is focused on helping property owners eradicate the graffiti on their buildings, as well as have awareness cleanup days quarterly.

As always, the membership committee looks for new members to help increase the network and voice of the association.  If you are not currently an active member, please join, get informed and involved.

The government affairs committee will continue to stay informed about current events and issues making sure FQBA has a seat at the table when necessary.

Bicycle Parking in the Quarter

The French Quarter Management District Infrastructure Committee has been hard at work collaborating with the city and the Young Leadership Council to create a plan for placing bike corrals, which will park up to 12 bikes, throughout the Quarter.  Racks will be funded through the Where Ya'Rack? Project.  FQBA is in full support of this project and looking for businesses to help fund this positive community endeavor.

The current proposed locations are being reviewed by the Department of Public Works, to determine feasibility and will be disclosed for public review as soon as spaces have been approved.

If you or your business would like to financially support the placement of these specially designed French Quarter Where Ya'Rack? Bike Corrals, contact Annie@fqba.org.

French Quarter Business Association
Introduced the 2013 Board of Directors
& Honored French Quarter Advocates

On Thursday, January 17th, in the Royal Sonesta Grand Ballroom, over 200 attendees representing businesses throughout the Quarter gathered to meet the 2013 board of directors of the French Quarter Business Association.  Among the attendees were City Council President Stacy Head and District C City Council representative Kristin Gisleson Palmer.

The evening's Mistress of Ceremonies was Nancy Parker of Fox 8 News.  She attended with her husband, Glynn Boyd. This was her third year in this role.  She adds a vibrant addition to the event and is a true friend of the association. Nancy jubilantly presented the following awards:

Fleur-de-lis Award, presented annually to individuals for their extraordinary  dedication to our historic neighborhood, was awarded to Mr. Coleman Adler. Mr. Adler has been a longstanding community activist through his business and as a resident of the French Quarter.  He continuously helps improve the quality of life on the streets of the French Quarter and takes great pride in upholding a standard of excellence and preservation with his contributions to the neighborhood.

The Ambassador Award was created to recognize an unsung hero, a friend of the French Quarter, an individual who makes the French Quarter a more special place by their hard work, spirit and positive energy. Ms. Gail Cavett is a French Quarter resident that hopes to make a change through being proactive and organized working with the Vieux Carre-Graffiti Abatement Program and  as chair of the Infrastructure Committee for the French Quarter Management District.  She's a friendly neighbor active with a number of organizations. Her hours as a volunteer are working toward improving the quality of life in the French Quarter.
