Dear Members: As I write my final letter to you, I think back on the terrific experience of being your President. This organization has grown over the years to a more powerful and respected organization than maybe the founders even imagined. FQBA has earned the respect of the political arm of the community, and strove to nurture a relationship with residents that could be productive for all of us. It began with the presidents before me (especially after Katrina) and will continue as our new president takes the reins. I am proud to say I am a member of FQBA and I hope all of you have the same pride of your membership. It could only get this far with the dedication and involvement of so many of our members. The committees in the past two years have put in so many hours from attending council meetings to cleaning stickers and spray paint from our Quarter. There is little that they wouldn't do, and all of it took their time, their personal and business resources. So let me publicly thank those committees and the chair people who led them. This comes with a huge thank you to the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. Our Executive Director, Annie Flettrich, has put tireless energy in making this organization run more effectively and efficiently than ever before. Thank you Annie! To our new officers I say congratulations and ask each of you to give them hand in the coming year as it holds so much promise for our business community. Your President, Adrienne Thomas

"Shop Away in the Vieux Carre" A special holiday shopping day, hosted by FQBA and it's members was held on Saturday, November 17th, the marketing committee worked to create this first time shopping promotional day. Next year the committee will add to it from suggestions from participating members. If you would like to be involved in the process please join the committee.
Feedback received from a patron after the event:
"Thank you so much for planning the pre-holiday shopping in the French Quarter. We tried last week to go to the French Quarter to buy a small gift and couldn't find a parking place. We had so much difficulty getting around the streets that I despaired of doing any holiday shopping there. I parked at Canal Place and used the pedi-cabs to get around. Since I had never ridden a pedi-cab before, this added to the fun of the shopping expedition. I do hope you plan something similar in the future." - Ann Sayas |

New Year's in New Orleans
With another year of generous community support, our spirited city can welcome 2013 with live New Orleans music, a unique fleur de lis drop, and the midnight fireworks display over the Mighty Mississippi River. Hosted by the City of New Orleans in collaboration with the Crescent City Countdown Club, entertainment begins at 9:00 p.m. on the Decatur Street City Stage in front of Jackson Square with performances to take us up to the midnight countdown.
Join Mayor Mitch Landrieu as we count down to the New Year, and watch as the newly renovated 8-foot tall by 5-foot wide two-dimensional fleur de lis descends a 25-foot pole atop Jax Brewery Condominiums to launch the exquisite Symphony in the Sky. Made of plywood with weather-treated cloth stretched over the frame, the fleur de lis is adorned with aluminum ribbons and LED lights, making it easier to view from both sides. A 6-foot high by 4-foot wide "New Year" board will light up with two hundred 25-watt clear bulbs announcing the official arrival of the new year. The lovable 6-foot tall "Baby New Year," wearing a purple and gold diaper, will again be perched on the corner of the JAX rooftop for all to see. "Born" in 2000, Baby New Year has a styrofoam interior and was found floating in the Barth Brothers' den where he survived Hurricane Katrina. Baby New Year still boasts his Saints helmet, added the year the Saints played in (and won!) the Super Bowl. He will also be flanked by an LSU and a Hornets flag and have other special touchups that showcase the spirit of our city.
Simulcast live on Magic 101.9 FM and WWL AM and FM and WWL.com, the NOLA New Year's Eve celebration will be enjoyed in more than 38 states across the U.S. and on the worldwide web. At the stroke of midnight, the fireworks display will illuminate the sky and be choreographed to soulful New Orleans music. Also included will be the fight songs of our visiting Sugar Bowl teams. As the fight songs play, the sky will light up in the teams' colors!
