Dear Members:

Thanks you to all the members who have volunteered their time this year as committee members, board members, task forces, graffiti clean-ups, and lunch forum attendees.  Every activity makes our organization stronger.   Membership has continued to grow and our retention numbers have been excellent for a non-profit.  All of these are signs that FQBA is growing closer each day to its potential.

The nominating committee is reviewing numerous forms for the 2013 Board of Directors and will be pleased to announce those in the next newsletter.  We believe that the diversity of our board helps us to keep a balanced view of political, economical and quality of life issues in the Quarter.  Any time during the year that issues rise that you want addressed by the board on behalf of all the businesses in the Quarter, please don't hesitate to contact our Executive Director, Annie Flettrich. She will present it to the appropriate committee.

Your support of Shop-A-Way in the Vieux Carre on November 17th will add to the success of this new program.  With traditional as well as social media promotion, we anticipate a local's push to shop in the heart of the city - our French Quarter. More information is included in this newsletter.

Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday season!

Your President,

Adrienne Thomas

Paths to Progress Informational Update

Sidewalk removal and replacement

  • Sidewalks in poor condition were considered for removal and replacement
  • Sidewalks are not removed and replaced under galleries and 12" from building foundations due to structural uncertainties
  • Some areas of sidewalk were not removed and replaced due safety concerns with shallow electrical lines

Milling and paving operations

  • The project schedule list of streets in order is as follows: Note: Dauphine moved in the schedule for paving to immediately after Royal.
  1. Burgundy (Sidewalks, milling and mainline paving overlay completed; turn-out and crossover paving underway)
  2. Esplanade (Sidewalks and milling completed; mainline paving overlay complete; turn-out and crossover to follow Burgundy)
  3. Royal (Milling complete; stone sidewalk underway; mainline paving overlay underway)
  4. Dauphine (Sidewalk underway; milling completed; overlay to follow Royal)
  5. Toulouse (Sidewalk underway; milling completed; overlay to follow Dauphine completion)
  6. St. Louis (Sidewalk underway; milling completed; overlay to follow Toulouse)
  7. Decatur/N Peters (Sidewalk underway; milling and overlay to follow St. Louis)
  • Milling machine removes 2" of asphalt on the existing roadway, paving with 2" of new asphalt
  • During paving operations, there will be period of time during construction hours (approx. 2-3 hours) that absolutely no vehicular traffic can drive on fresh asphalt as this will cause damage to the new surface

Termite trap procedure

  • Paths to Progress has coordinated with the City of New Orleans Mosquito and Termite Control
  • In areas of sidewalk that Paths to Progress removes and replaces where a termite trap was located, the contractor will core the sidewalks at the spacing and location per the current standards. These standards are 18" from the property and 10' spacing.
  • The property owner will be notified and need to contact their termite bait service provider for re-installation of bait traps. (Letters have begun distribution.)

Manhole Covers

  • Manholes will be adjusted as needed during and following overlay operations. The covers may get covered by asphalt, but will be cleaned and/or replaced as necessary at the end of the project.

Street Light Foundation

  • Existing street light post foundations affected by sidewalk construction will remain in place or be reinstalled as necessary

Vibrations

  • This is monitored during the milling process and vibrations measured to adhere to federal standards

Street Name Tiles

  • Street name tiles will be installed per standard plans. Any installed not meeting these standards will be corrected before the project is complete.

Project clean-up

  • The contractor is required to complete a project-wide clean-up
  • As this is a working construction site, thank you for your patience with construction materials, equipment and crews in the area
