WEEK of 6.29.15

Hi Team:

Wow -- time is flying by -- June is almost over!

Chicago Marathon runners welcome to week 8 and

New York Runners welcome to week 5 of training ...

Why should you run >80% of all your miles at an easy pace? To be faster and stronger come Marathon Day! Most runners run too fast too often and run the risk of injury that could side-line them from getting to the start line on race day. I recommend you review two articles via the links below. This is the number one challenge we coaches have with runners training for a marathon.

Active:  Benefits of slow

Competitor:  Train slower; race faster

Most runners think they need to run their long runs at Goal Pace or faster. Even the very best experienced marathon runners slow their pace down so they are stronger and faster on race day. There will be time to do some speed work later during the Sharpening Phase of training (i.e. starting in week 14).
