Dear Friends:

On the evening of May 15, Jack's Fund Board Members and supporters attended a dedication and blessing for the Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Cancer Survivorship Center.  The first stand alone hospital-affiliated survivorship center in Illinois.

Funds from the 2012 "This Run's For Jack" will help develop programming for families touched by melanoma.  Classes focus on the physical, social, psychological and spiritual needs of patients, caregivers and families.

We are excited to support this much needed and often forgotten healing piece on the cancer journey.

Together we will make a difference,

"I won't get sunburned because I already have my 'base tan' to protect my skin from the sun throughout the summer."

A suntan is the skin's way of trying to protect itself from additional sun damage.

Because DNA or cellular damage is the prerequisite for pigment production, a suntan is a sure sign that the skin has been harmed.  This is why it can be said, "there is no safe tan."

Michael Marston, Erik Strittmater, Matthew Marston

CONGRATULATIONS:
Erik James Strittmater
2013 "Game On" Scholarship Recipient
The scholarship was presented Wednesday night at the Glenbard West High School Senior Convocation Ceremony. Erik will be attending Purdue in the fall.  Four year varsity athlete in football and lacross. National Honor Society and JKB member.

Erik's essay, community service and work ethic demonstrated the "Game On" attitude we look for in athletes.  Here's an excerpt ... "With hands joined together in a chain, we stand as a single unit against all adversity. My sweat splatters against the smooth pavement as my mind races. Preparing for the battle ahead, I mentally simulate all possible situations ... Unbeknownst to me this would be my first and last walk down the hill."  continue reading

There were many excellent candidates this year. The Board of Directors would like to thank all applicants and encourage everyone to continue the great work.
