MISSION MOMENT MONDAY
"I first found out about the Diabetes Prevention Program through the local newspaper. I am in my 60s and as I get older, I find it harder and harder to lose weight - and to keep it off. One of the things I loved most about the program was that it held me accountable. We had a small class and the camaraderie between the classmates kept me coming back. I found that the members of my class all shared tips and tricks - and sometimes I learned the most from other people participating with me! I have made many changes to my life - including learning to measure more and use less - without it impacting the taste of my food. For instance, with salad dressing I used to use 2 tablespoons and now I only use one - and I choose better options that are still tasty. In total, I lost 20 pounds - which is not easy to do at any age - but is much more difficult at my age. Before I participated in the class, I was afraid of fitness machines, but the instructors helped show me how to use them so that I don't injure myself. I really enjoyed the women's wellness and spinning class, and am looking forward to taking advantage of more programs that the Y offers." --Senior Participant in the Diabetes Prevention Program
