GreenSpirit 2016 Annual Gathering

Honouring the Wisdom of the Natural World

Friday 21st - Sunday 23rd October 2016

At EarthSpirit, Dundon, Somerton, Somerset. TA11 6PE

The main speaker will be Philip Carr-Gomm.

Philip Carr-Gomm combines being a leader of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, the largest Druid teaching order in the world with being an author in the fields of Druidry and psychology. Philip also draws upon the wisdom of other spiritual paths and is particularly interested in the ways in which we can preserve and protect the natural world for future generations. With him we will learn about Druidry and he will help us find inspiration and guidance by drawing on the animal and plant lore of our (for many of us) native lands: The British Isles.

Click here to find out more about Philip.

All food during the weekend will be vegetarian.

The weekend will start at the evening meal on the Friday and will end after lunch on the Sunday. During the weekend we will also have a chance to connect with each other and the natural world with music, small groups, creative activities, meditations, a walk, ritual, the AGM and making our own entertainment on the Saturday evening.

Without the soaring birds, the great forests, the sounds and colouration of the insects, the free flowering fields, the sight of the clouds by day and the stars at night, we become impoverished in all that makes us human.

Invitation to attend the 2016 Awakening to a
New Consciousness Lecture

The Institute for Theological Partnerships is delighted to welcome Maddy HarlandEditor, Director, Co-Founder of Permaculture Magazine | Permanent Publications to give this year's Awakening to a New Consciousness lecture and very much hope that you will be able to join us.

Transformational Heresy: Awakening a New Consciousness
Winchester University
Wednesday 25th May 2016
6.30 pm for 7pm start

"Our ancestors relied on their understanding of the land for their survival and had worldviews that acknowledged and celebrated their fundamental interconnection with the natural world.  The industrial revolution and our post-industrial society have severed this link and our disconnection is reflected in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, energy generation, and our separated worldview.

In this lecture, Maddy Harland challenges some of our collective beliefs and provides examples of how a different world is possible where we can once again embrace our profound ecological connection and become a "communion of subjects, not a collection of objects". This worldview is not only an essential step that we must take for our survival as a species; it is a regenerative, joyous, expansive one too."

Maddy Harland is editor and co-founder of Permaculture magazine and Permanent Publications, a publishing company dedicated to regenerative, ecological solutions. She helped set up the Sustainability Centre in Hampshire, once a military base and now a thriving learning centre and is also a founder of Gaia Education who have developed the Ecovillage Design Education course endorsed by UNESCO.

Maddy is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and is a Visiting Knowledge and Exchange Fellow at the Institute of Theological Partnerships.

Venue:  Room 2, West Downs Campus, Romsey Road, University of Winchester, SO22 5HT

Parking is available to the front of the West Downs Building
Please contact Joanna.Wilson@Winchester.ac.uk to confirm your attendance.

The Shamanic Lands

11th and 12th June 2016

Conway Hall, London. WC1R 4RL

The Shamanic Lands is a two-day ceremony and waking shamanic journey uniting the ancient knowledge of the British Isles and Ireland with global shamanic wisdom. Many people are being drawn to travel to other countries in search of the genuine shamanic experience, while we reside in lands already rich with shamanic heritage.

Join us on a journey through the wisdom teachings, storytelling, practical exercises, art, live music and performances, all woven into a unique narrative that highlights the ancient and deep magical heritage that our Shamanic Lands hold.

Plant Consciousness 2016

Regent's University London

1st and 2nd October 2016

An event that is revolutionising our relationship with plants

Our disconnect from the natural world has led to the disastrous situation that we now find ourselves in on planet Earth, yet our deep feelings for nature form part of our spiritual longing. The Plant Consciousness 2016 event will demonstrate in dynamic ways the intelligence of the hedgerows and fields outside of the forest, before venturing ever deeper into the Enchanted Woodland where we will learn how to cultivate and nurture our own 'Inner Forest' and why it is essential for the development of consciousness and the well-being of the planet that we do.

We can learn so much from the inherent qualities of the plant kingdom and if we look even closer, from the intelligence that lies behind it. Bringing together the values of plant neurobiology, deep-ecology, eco-psychology, sacred plant medicine, shamanism and herbalism you will discover a deeper understanding and a new harmony with plants and with your place in the biosphere of life on this planet.

Speakers:

* John Perkins - Author, Activist ~ How the Plants are guiding us to a New Consciousness
* Michael Dunning - Yew Shaman ~ Yew - Tree of Eternity
* Robin Harford - Forager, EatWeeds ~ Contemplating Plants: Coming to your Senses
* Judy McAllister - Findhorn Association ~ The Voice of the Forest
* Karen Lawton & Fiona Heckles - The Seed Sistas, Sensory Solutions, Hedgewitches ~ Voices from the Hedgerow
* Kay Haw - Woodland Trust Conservation Advisor ~ Ecology & Conservation
* Jonathon Code - Biodynamic Association ~ Encountering Yarrow: A Miracle of Creation
* Carolyn Hillyer & Nigel Shaw - Seventh Wave ~ Echoes of the Ancient Forest

Deep Time Walk App

Crowd Funding Campaign

Please donate to make this project a success!

Matched funding announced - doubling your donation!

We are thrilled to announce we have just secured £4,000 in match funding for the Deep Time Walk crowdfunding campaign. As a result any amount pledged within the next few days will, in effect, be doubled. Unfortunately, if we do not meet our £21,000 target we will not receive any of the amount already pledged and the project will not continue. Please consider supporting this important project at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/deeptimewalk

The Deep Time Walk is a 4.6km walking audio history of life. This unfolding takes you from 4.6bn years ago to the present day, with each metre representing one million years. During the narrated walk you learn how our planet evolved over this vast stretch of time, including the accretion of the Earth from a disc of rocky debris, the formation of the oceans and atmosphere, the appearance of bacteria - the first life, then the first nucleated cells, and, eventually, multicellular organisms. As you walk you begin to recognise the long geological processes and self-regulating patterns that have produced the conditions for the evolution of life.

An app for the Deep Time Walk will be available in the second half of 2016.

You can find out more at: http://www.deeptimewalk.org

The Phoenix Rose

Debut Album

"A multicultural, modern classic"

The debut album from The Phoenix Rose, fronted by eco-entrepreneur Jarvis Smith, is now available to download from Amazon - click here and iTunes  - click here

The Phoenix Rose has been described as 'a London-based musical tsunami' that celebrates the power of music to reach the entire human family.

Jarvis has always had a passion for music, and his goal is to use it as a medium to shift consciousness so that, collectively, we can all help to save the planet.

'The UK's popular music culture lacks ambassadors and stewards for the most important subject of our time: climate change', Jarvis says. 'The Phoenix Rose will use music to help bring home those truths; as lead singer and songwriter I will continue my work with this unbiased medium.'

Jarvis studied with a shaman for 10 years, has practised yoga for 14 years and is a Reiki Master. He understands that everything is energy, and his music carries a vibration that he hopes will help to bridge the gap between Nature's truth and man-made laws.

After nearly eight years of preparation, the band's self-titled album - which is packed with dynamic, uplifting themes and irresistible grooves - is currently being played on 25 UK radio stations, and the debut single 'Destination' has been highly acclaimed on award-winning music blogs including God is in the TV.

The wide appeal of the music can be traced to the diverse set of influences that make up The Phoenix Rose: the album fuses pop, rock, reggae, hip hop and Indian music into a singular composition.

Universe Story Walks

1st - 3rd July

and:  9th - 11th September

Walk the Story of the Universe combines an introduction to the scientific story of the Universe with an enjoyable weekend of gentle walking and fine food. The idea of walking the story (scaled over 13.8 kilometres) is that you not only learn about the extraordinary events that brought us here, but also develop a strong physical sense of your place within them.

The 13.8 kilometre distance makes each metre we pass on the ground equivalent to a million years in time. We walk this over two days - 9.3 kilometres (5.8 miles) on the first day and 4.5 kilometres (2.8 miles) on the second.

Walk the Story of the Universe is open to anyone who can walk 13.8 kilometres. No previous knowledge or particular outlook is assumed. Greg uses a variety of teaching techniques to help to make the content accessible, fun and engaging.

Cosmic Walk and Labyrinth update from the
Institute for Theological Partnerships at the University of Winchester

The Head Gardener, Maurice James, has been busy in the Cosmic Walk and has completely renovated the Labyrinth and will soon have fresh white lines marking out the pathways. Please feel free to visit and to Walk the Labyrinth. New plants have been purchased for the pre-history beds - including 3 tree ferns, a conifer and numerous native ferns to populate the 'dinosaur area'. In addition, the gardening team will also be planting up the boggy area with two varieties of horsetail and Gunnera Tinctoria. So, lots to come in April and May!

How is Western science finding common ground with faith-based and spiritual teachings on the interrelatedness of life?  Aliveness and the metamorphosis of science

Join us for a very special evening with 'eco-philosopher', writer and scholar Andreas Weber.

20th July 20th 6:30 PM

In his new book, The Biology of Wonder, scientist Andreas Weber reframes this fundamental enigma by arguing that all living beings, like humans, are not biological machines, but living, creative agents fuelled by meaning and expression. Andreas proposes a new approach to the biological sciences that puts the human back in nature. He argues that feelings and emotions, far from being superfluous to the study of organisms, are the very foundation of life. From this basic premise flows the development of a new approach he calls "poetic ecology" - which intimately connects our species to every being and underpins the entire range of human experience.

Residential retreat at Boswedden House, Cape Cornwall

The far west of Cornwall, the little triangle between Penzance, St Ives and Land's End, is one of those thin-veil places. This area has one of the densest concentrations of megalithic sites in Europe.

Together we'll explore the megalithic sites, holy wells and coastpath of this magical area (Boswedden House is very close to the sea), after starting each day with some quiet writing and the inspiration of some poetry of place.

In the spirit of pilgrimage, each walk will be in shared silence, but the afternoon sessions will be given over to guided writing, and the evenings to reading back our own poetic responses.

If you are someone with a passion for poetry (even if you've never written it), for the outdoors, and for exploring our inner life, then I'd be delighted if you'd join us. You need to be fit enough to walk up to 5 miles or so at a time; and you need to be comfortable with silence.

September 2 - 4

This is an invitation to relax, renew and explore in the company of men, and the magical setting of this 70-acre wood. The talents of the group and the wisdom of the wood offer a stage on which we can explore shared themes or personal situations as we want, through a range of approaches, and just being here. In this very different setting, out on the land with a campfire, there's scope to meet new aspects of yourself, find the subtler voices and the deeper melody, change an old story, play a new part, and hear the collective wisdom of the group. Several Shakespeare plays use the forest as a place to find your true values, and this wood can help us explore male archetypes in the play of life.

September 30 - 2 October, Friday 7pm - Sunday 3pm.

This weekend combines the satisfaction of outdoor physical activity with the restorative effect of relaxing in a serene woodland environment. Over two days and two nights at Hazel Hill, you will get the chance to try your hand at a range of conservation activities that are helping to turn this piece of important woodland into a resilient environment for the future. Led by our experienced conservation team, you'll get involved with activities such as tree-planting, restoring butterfly habitat and thinning thickets. There'll be optional sessions on forest ecosystems and eco-buildings. And when it's time to down tools, there are plenty of ways to relax: wander through the wood; soak in the outdoor hot tub; relax in the wood-fired sauna; do some stretching in the woods; sing songs around the campfire and share delicious food.
