Spring Equinox Celebration
Our Spring Equinox meeting will be on Sunday March 20th 2016 at 33 Park Road at 6pm for food and 7.30 pm for the ritual.

Spring Equinox celebrates the renewed life of the Earth that comes with the warming of Spring. It is a solar festival, celebrated when the length of the day and the night are equal (this happens twice a year, at spring and autumn equinox). To celebrate the spring, we will start with Ikebana, the Japanese art of arranging flowers and foliage meditatively. Bring budding twigs, flowers, willow catkins, sprouting bulbs, and bring your favourite poems by nature poets like John Clare, Blake, Wordsworth, Thomas Traherne and others.

Please let us know if you want to come for food by March 17th 2016
(contact Hilary Norton, email: hapn(at)greenspirit.org.uk tel: 0208 470 3365.)

Easter Dawn Walk
Sunday morning - 27th March 2016

We will celebrate Easter (or Eostre - the Great Mother Goddess of the Saxons) and the renewal of life with a dawn walk on Easter Sunday.

The dawn, when the night's darkness begins to dissolve and give way to another day with its new possibilities, is a wonderful time to walk. At that time of day, even in the city, it is the sky that becomes a changing landscape.

We will gather at Northumberland Avenue/Wanstead Park Avenue at 6:30am to walk in Wanstead Park, watch the mists rising, hear the dawn chorus and to greet the rising sun at 6:46am. Remember that the clocks 'spring forward' 1 hour overnight.

Afterwards, Ian will host a vegetarian breakfast at 137 Ham Park Road, Forest Gate, London. E7 9LE. Please let Ian (email info(at)greenspirit.org.uk tel: 0208 552 2096) know by the end of day Friday 25th March if you wish to join us for breakfast and with any dietary requirements.

North Lancashire and Cumbria

Sunday 20th March 2016 2 - 5 pm ~ Spring Equinox ~ Backsbottom Farm, (Middlewood, Nr Wray.)

Members of the GreenSpirit Group have decided that the Spring Equinox celebration will be dedicated to remembering and celebrating Noel Charlton's life, and re-dedicating ourselves to living according to the values he held dear. So many people have expressed interest in coming to this event, and contributing in some way, that time may prove rather short!  However, any ideas about the form and content of the afternoon would be much welcomed by Dorothea and Pamela. Please let them know of any contribution you would like to make. The usual contributions of food and drink will be very welcome, too!

Saturday 30th April 2016 2 - 5 pm ~ Beltane ~ Backsbottom Farm (Middlewood, Nr Wray). Spring-cleaning has brought forth the greening-time; six months from Samhain and new life is present. From union comes the abundance of summer for harvesting. We celebrate natural renewal and creativity through the union of many elements. Please bring vegetarian food for the shared meal, and timely contributions, poems and readings.

Sunday 19th June 2016 2 - 5 pm Summer Solstice Backsbottom Farm (Middlewood, nr Wray). Here is the time of greatest light; a time to celebrate what has been and is manifesting. Come and make merry with music and dancing. Let's have abundance! Dress in fiery colours; bring colourful contributions and vegetarian food and drink to share. For details contact: Dorothea or Jill.

For further information and lifts for these calendar events please get in touch with the event hosts:

Spiritual Ecology: A deeper response to the ecological crisis

April 22nd, 2016 10:00 AM

St Ethelburga's, 78 Bishopsgate, London EC2N 4AG

Can we respond to the true nature of the ecological crisis from just a political or economic perspective? Spiritual Ecology is a developing field which joins ecology and environmentalism with a deeper awareness of the Earth as alive, animate and sacred. It calls for a spiritual as well as environmental, political and economic response to the global crisis and a recognition of the need for a new meta-narrative of interconnectedness, reverence for nature, service and stewardship. In this workshop, join us for an exploration into the principles of spiritual ecology, and how they can be lived and practiced in ways that create lasting change.

Standard price £65, concessionary price £40.

Natural Happiness: The roots of resilience

A workshop at Hazel Hill Wood, near Salisbury

22nd - 24th April 2016

Guided by Alan Heeks, Jane Sanders and ... the wood

How can we stay happy and fulfilled in our life and work in the midst of change and uncertainty? What can we learn from nature about deepening our resilience so that daily demands don't deplete us?

This week-end we'll be exploring these questions in the magical setting of a 70 acre wood in full spring. The first aim is to slow down, relax and be nourished. As we deepen into peace and simple presence, the heart of mindfulness, we'll then explore how our sense of community can grow to include the collective wisdom of nature and the 'more than human' world as well as people.

Finally we'll be gathering insights into how to create new responses to daily challenges, drawing on the ecosystem of the wood and the fellowship of the group to help us. In group sessions we'll tap into co-creativity, deep listening, resourcing and the gifts of stillness. There will also be space for solo time in the wood, good food which we will cook together, and campfires, songs and stories among the bluebells.

Maybe we should stop asking...

Poetry, Place & Pilgrimage

Thursday June 9th - Tuesday June 14th

Residential retreat at Boswedden House, Cape Cornwall

The far west of Cornwall, the little triangle between Penzance, St Ives and Land's End, is one of those thin-veil places. This area has one of the densest concentrations of megalithic sites in Europe.

Together we'll explore the megalithic sites, holy wells and coastpath of this magical area (Boswedden House is very close to the sea), after starting each day with some quiet writing and the inspiration of some poetry of place.

In the spirit of pilgrimage, each walk will be in shared silence, but the afternoon sessions will be given over to guided writing, and the evenings to reading back our own poetic responses.

If you are someone with a passion for poetry (even if you've never written it), for the outdoors, and for exploring our inner life, then I'd be delighted if you'd join us. You need to be fit enough to walk up to 5 miles or so at a time; and you need to be comfortable with silence.

There is an early bird discount before the end of March.

Monday 11th April 2016 to Friday 15th April 2016

With David Abram and Stephan Harding

At a moment when so many ecological limits are being breached by a civilisation largely oblivious to its own embedment within the biosphere, how can we swiftly catalyse a collective recognition of our thorough dependence upon the animate earth? How to open a fresh and unshakeable solidarity between humankind and the other animals, plants, and elemental forces that compose this breathing biosphere?
