Our Lovely Orders This Week
| This week's $20 Farmer Pick box. |
We are so happy to get the main growing season rolling, our group of farmers are busy planting Summer crops and harvesting a terrific variety of Spring foods for our Members! Mother Nature is taking care of us right now with weekly rains, we'll see what Friday brings but the forecast for the weekend is splendid. No major changes or problems happened with the farm harvests for this week's orders, we did end up sending some folks White Sweet Potatoes instead of "regular" Sweet Potatoes for $30 and $40 Farmer Pick boxes but otherwise all went just as planned. We hope you enjoy this week's Recipe: our Strawberry Cilantro Salad is truly delicious and really different, a fresh and tasty melding of flavors to surprise the eaters at your table.
Mama Frida's Twin Girls So of course Mama Goat Frida had her two girls last Thursday night just before the storm hit. Since she is named after the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and they were born May 4th we decided to call them Cinco and Mayo so we won't forget their birthdays! She had them just in time for our first series of live streamed "Farm Tours" on Friday with kids at Morrow Elementary, we had a blast.
Support Your Pickup Location!
We are so happy to announce Wild Heaven Beer is now hosting our Decatur deliveries. Pickup your box, enjoy some local beer, life is good. Also the new Vinings location Canoe Restaurant starts with next week's deliveries! We have worked with the wonderful chefs at Canoe for many years and are happy they offered to host us for their neighborhood. Pickups are Wednesdays or Thursdays from 2pm - 5pm.
Heads-up! Three or four times a year we have to take a hard look at Pickup Locations that are lagging for orders (we really need at least 10 orders per week to support the delivery costs for each site). We are conducting our Spring Site Review and we have to say that East Cobb Cook's Warehouse nosedived after rallying the last time we scrutinized it and Arbor Montessori is not doing well, either. These have both been long-term sites but if you don't order we can't keep coming! This week East Cobb had four boxes and Arbor had five. Help us out and tell your friends if you want to keep these locations! We'll make a decision in the next few weeks. It's a simple math problem: we lose money if we are only delivering a couple of boxes each week.
We have heard from some folks that they are waiting for Summer Vegetables: folks, our farmers work full-time year-round. If you want local, fresh, organically-grown food we need our Members to eat local year-round, too!
Farmhouse Supper Club
Enjoy a Sunday drive in the country, get up-close and personal with our Goats and Chickens and enjoy meeting some new folks at one of our upcoming Farmhouse Supper Clubs! Put in your Reservations now for Sunday June 11th, sorry but Mother's Day is sold out. Miss Guinness' two little kids are ready for snuggling and Mama Frida 's two girl kids are cutie patooties. (For planning purposes we don't have Supper Club for the months of July and August since it's so darn hot so the next ones after June will be September, October and November.)

This delicious salad can be enjoyed as a light meal or side dish: the Cilantro compliments the Strawberries so well, you will surely be surprised and the Vidalia Onions add a terrific savory balance to our Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. Fresh, light and delicious.
1. Wash, trim and tear or chop Salad Greens (we used Lettuce and Swiss Chard, save the Chard stems and chop finely for the salad). 2. Trim and chop 1/2 cup Vidalia Onion. A mild Sweet Onion is best to compliment the berries so Green Onions would work, too. 3. Wash, trim and chop 1 cup Strawberries and 5-6 stems of Cilantro. 4. Make Balsamic Vinaigrette: put ingredients in a jar with a lid (1/2 pint canning jars or jelly jars are great for dressings) 1/2 cup Olive Oil, 1/4 cup Balsamic Vinegar, 1 Tablespoon Honey, salt and pepper to taste. 5. Mix together the Onion, Strawberries, Cilantro and chopped Chard stems, add just enough dressing to coat. Chill in the refrigerator for 10 minutes or so, this salad should be prepared and served fresh* so the Cilantro doesn't get wilty. Arrange Salad Greens on plates, scoop Strawberry Cilantro Salad on top and serve.
*If you want to take this salad for your lunch the next day just hold off on the dressing and combine with the salad ingredients just before enjoying.
