Lovely Orders This Week
Our $20 Farmer Pick box this week.
It was so nice that everything went so smoothly with the extra farm chores this week (we have to close up all of the chicken and goat houses and provide extra bedding so everyone stays nice and snuggly!). One note: the wonderful Spinach from our neighbor farmer Ken Gay of 2G Farm will need a couple of extra washes! The weather and picking schedule just did not mesh well and there was no time to get it washed before it went into the boxes. Just one or two extra rinse/soak/swish/spin cycles in your Salad Spinner and it will be good to go! What?! No Salad Spinner in your house? They are fantastic, a kitchen essential, go get one. This one from Oxo is our favorite and it can be found at your friendly neighborhood Cook's Warehouse store (among other fine purveyors!). The Strawberries came to us packed in both quarts (1 pound) and pints (1/2 pound) so we sent the quarts for Farmer Pick orders to cut down on plastic packaging. Everyone keep your fingers crossed that this week's Winter freeze doesn't cut them short this year (pretty please!).

New Supper Club Dates
Our February Farmhouse Supper Club was really terrific! We have the next set of dates ready if you want to put in your Reservations now: Sunday April 9th and Mothers Day Sunday May 14th. (Mother's Day is almost full!)

Pickup Location Changes
This is the last week we'll run this info: we are surprised at how many folks do not read the Newsletters! We need at least 10 orders per week to cover the costs of delivery to a Pickup Location and some sites have been very low for several months. Thank you to everyone who helped spread the word to friends and neighbors! In particular the East Cobb location got a big boost from Karin, Joan & John and Sue. Orders have been up and we will definitely continue deliveries to The Cooks Warehouse. Likewise All Saints' Episcopal and Smyrna's Grateful Bread Company. Unfortunately, Care USA, Atlanta Community Food Bank and Cox Enterprises just do not have enough Members to keep us coming every week. Each has another pickup site within a few miles so at least there are good options to still get Real Food from our Farmers!

Update on Decatur: we are still working to finalize a new Pickup Location in Decatur. We want to be sure we have a great spot that is easy for everyone to get in and out and that we have an enthusiastic long-term partner. Also, the new Cook's Warehouse that is opening in Chamblee will be added so stay tuned for info if you are in that neck of the woods.

Please don't think we don't still want your referrals! There are so many new e-ways to keep in touch with neighbors now so mention us in community or church bulletins, school newsletters and don't stop spreading the word to co-workers. Posting a review of us on Facebook is always very appreciated and a suggestion came in on the survey to forward our emails to friends who might be interested. Thank you!

Online Market Survey and "Cooler Item" Changes
A big thank you to everyone who took a few moments to take our quick survey. We learned a few things based on the responses:
  • 70% told us they appreciate getting the Monday Order Reminder emails so those are back to stay. Too many emails for you? You can create a Folder in your Inbox for our incoming emails to automatically sort into - then you can view them when you like!
  • 50% of the folks who answered let us know it would be fine to reduce packaging and the possibility of missing your Meat or Dairy items by including them in the main order box. We started this week and right away we realized how much less packaging we will need to use! Cheese and Butter go into the boxes with the Veggies (they stay plenty cool enough). Other Dairy and Meat items will be in the box with a cooler pack when necessary. For instance, if your box goes into a walk-in at your Pickup Location we won't include a cooler pack (Avalon Catering, Miller Union, 5 Seasons Brewing, Sandy Springs, Smyrna). We appreciate any cooler pack returns with the boxes, any reasonable re-use helps everyone!
  • We got a variety of responses about our program, the new website and how happy folks are with what we do. This only helps us to step it up and work harder for your support!

Weekly Recipe: Meatloaf Dinner
Potatoes roasted with rosemary and meatloaf on a plate
Our package has all the main ingredients for a delicious meal!
Each week we highlight
some of the ingredients from our boxes with  one of our own Farmhouse Recipes. This is the way we cook here on the Farm with our limited kitchen time but love of Good Food. We hope to inspire you to try something new, even if it's just one All-Local Meal a week! The Full Recipe will be in the Wednesday Weekly Newsletter.

A favorite Farmhouse meal, Will's Meatloaf uses a mix of Ground Beef and Ground Pork and he grills it for fantastic flavor. Paired with Roasted Potatoes and Salad with fresh Strawberries for dessert you just can't go wrong with this simple supper!

Will's Wonderful Meatloaf
1. Chop 1 Onion finely, you want about 1/2 cup, or more if you like! Saute in 2Tablespoons Olive Oil until soft. Season with salt and pepper, and optional chopped fresh herbs, and garlic. Combine and remove from heat, allow to cool.
2. In a food processor pulse 3-4 slices day-old bread or other bread for 1 cup Bread Crumbs. Biscuits also work well and for Gluten-free Meatloaf use Cornbread.
3. In a bowl mix together 1 pound each Ground Beef and Ground Pork, Bread Crumbs, Onion mixture and 2 Tablespoons Water. Be sure to put the Olive Oil from the Onions in there too, it helps to keep the grass-fed meats a little moister.
4. Line a baking sheet with silpat, parchment paper or foil, mound meatloaf mixture in middle in roughly a rectangle shape, 2" - 3" high. Shape edges to make a rectangle (or any shape you like!). This is fun for kids to make "mini meatloaf" in a square, heart, or another shape. Just be sure the thickness is fairly even overall.

Bake in 350 degree oven for 30-45 minutes or until juices run clear and an internal temperature is 150 degrees (do not overcook pasture-raised meats, they will get tough!).
Alternatively, we love to Grill the Meatloaf: we use a foil pan with enough room around the formed Meatloaf for juices to run off as it cooks. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving, internal temp should rise to 160 during rest.

Sometimes Will uses a glaze for the Meatloaf and applies it for the last 10-15 minutes of cooking. He has used plain Ketchup, Hot Sauce, Hot Pepper Jelly (my favorite) or Asian Sweet Chili Sauce.

Roasted Potatoes
Wash trim and cut 2 pounds of Potatoes into wedges. Toss with just enough Olive Oil to coat, season with salt and pepper. Roast in a 375 degree oven for 20-30 minutes on a lined baking sheet (or wrap up in foil and roast on the grill!).

Serve Meatloaf and Potatoes with Tossed Salad and fresh Strawberries dusted with powdered sugar or drizzled with honey for dessert.
